Car Smashes into Isleworth Builders' Merchant
Resulting road closure causing substantial traffic congestion

There has been a significant amount of traffic congestion in the Isleworth area after a car crashed into a builders’ merchant on Syon Lane near the junction with Jersey Road.
The collision took place at around 2am on Monday morning (6 February). The car, a silver Audi RS4, was travelling at sufficient speed to smash through a brick wall and into the yard of P. A. Seccombe and Son Ltd.
The vehicle narrowly avoided crashing into a thicker section of the wall which, had it struck there, may have resulted in fatalities. In the event the brick structure gave way and reduced the force of the impact.
The occupants of the car fled the scene and the police say they later located three men who were taken to hospital prior to being taken into custody as a precaution. Two were arrested on suspicion of drink driving, and the third on suspicion of drink driving and possession of cannabis.
The crash caused substantial damage to the premises which could take as much as £200,000 to repair.
The car was removed on Monday evening and Syon Lane near the junction with Windmill Lane remains closed but contraflow traffic signals have now been installed on the road.

John Seccombe posted on his web site, “ We understand that the driver and passengers suffered only cuts and bruises and we are thankful that none of the injuries were reported as more serious. Unfortunately, the damage to the car and buildings was extensive and the police attending made the decision to close the road to mitigate any additional risk. The car was finally removed at about 8pm Monday night and a crew erected scaffolding around the damaged building which continues to pose a risk.
“We understand it was necessary to build the support structure out into the carriageway at the end of Syon lane due to the excessive damage and to prevent further risk of collapse. Currently the road is still closed at the junction but we have been in communication with Hounslow Council and the local police who are in the process of arranging temporary traffic lights to allow traffic to move on Syon Lane.
“We are understandably unsure at this time how long the scaffolding will be in place, and we are already in the process of planning remedial works to repair the damage caused. We are very much aware of the disruption this may be causing and we will be doing everything we can to remedy the situation in a timely manner. We remain open for business as usual.”

Substantial traffic queues developed on Windmill Lane and Jersey Road with the congestion being exacerbated by existing lane closures on the A4 Great West Road relating to work around the Chiswick Flyover.
The building was originally part of Wyke Farm and has been occupied by the Seccombe family business since 1926 who took it over from the Goddard family best known for running the furniture store in Brentford. It is estimate that the destroyed wall is over 200 years old.
