Brentford FC's Indoor Pitch Meets Opposition

A proposal by Brentford FC (00647/C/P25) to build an indoor football pitch at its Jersey Road training site has come up against opposition from residents.
The club wants to construct the facility which would include an artificial playing surface with fencing and floodlighting at the opposite end of the site to the Robert Rowan training building.
Nearly 100 local residents have objected to the application which is for a permanent building with many pointing out that the site is Metropolitan Open Land (MOL).
Other grounds for opposing the plan include harm to the character of the area, increased flood risk, light pollution and increased parking stress in the area.
A report prepared on behalf of the club argues that the area of change relative to the larger MOL site is relatively small and it has no alternative amenity value or access to it.
The site has a border with Osterley Park but the application does not access that there would be any impact on views from the Grade II* registered historic park and garden.
The borough planners have yet to publish their report on the application but, if recommended for approval, it will be determined at a planning committee meeting as a major scheme which is a departure from the development plan and requires a legal agreement if approved.
