Ruth Cadbury visits the children of St. Paul's
Ruth Cadbury MP talking to the pupils at St. Paul's school
December 2, 2022
Brentford and Isleworth MP Ruth Cadbury visited St Paul’s CE Primary School in Brentford and fielded questions from Year 6 pupils.
Children were given the opportunity ask the MP about issues concerning them when she came to their school on Monday 28 November.
Issues that were raised included the cost of living crisis, mortgage rate rises, combatting cancer and protecting the environment. Ms Cadbury was impressed with the quality and range of questions put to her.
Later, she joined the School Council to consider how best to spend a £1,000 budget to the benefit of all pupils. She also joined school leaders and Governors to celebrate the school’s recent ‘Good’ Ofsted rating [June 2022] and an impressive set of academic results which put St Paul’s in the top 20 per cent nationwide for reading in Year 2, and achievement at the higher standard in mathematics in Year 6. They also discussed financial and other challenges facing schools like St Paul’s.
The MP said, “It has been lovely to come back and visit after some time. It was so good to answer such thoughtful questions from the pupils in Year 6. I really enjoyed working with the School Council to decide how to spend £1,000. I was particularly struck by the calmness and kindness of the pupils and staff at St Paul’s School.”
St Paul’s, which next year will mark 150 years serving Brentford, has recently opened up its admissions criteria to better reflect the community today, and no longer gives priority to Foundation (Church of England) pupils. The closing date for applications for a Reception place next year is 15 January 2023.
