Green Dragon Primary School in Brentford has launched a fundraising campaign to replace its damaged and now-removed playground equipment, calling on the local community to help give children the outdoor space they deserve.

Located near Brentford FC’s stadium and surrounded by high-rise housing, the school serves a diverse community where many families have limited access to private outdoor space. The school’s existing climbing equipment was recently removed due to age and safety concerns, leaving pupils without a key area for physical play and development.

“We are so lucky to have the space here,” said Hafide Ibnahaten, the school’s caretaker of over 20 years, “but we have no playground climbing equipment anymore. Our children mainly come from the local tower blocks and flats with no outdoor space. We really need some financial help to give the children the experiences they should have.”

The school is aiming to install a new wooden playground trail that would allow children to climb, balance, and explore in a safe and stimulating environment. Headteacher Jenny Butler, who joined the school at the beginning of this year, said the project aligns with the school’s focus on building resilience, adaptability, and ambition in its pupils.

“It’s such a shame to not have a playground trail here,” she said. “Having outdoor equipment will encourage every child to develop our personal goals. Our families have begun to fundraise and it’s all helping—but we need more. We ask our community in Brentford to please help us.”

Pupils have also voiced their hopes for the new space. Kayhan, a Year 6 house captain, said, “A climbing wall and a tunnel would be amazing. We used to have one and it was so popular. I’d love to balance on a walking area too. All the children would love it—from Nursery right up to Year 6.”

The school has set up a GoFundMe page to collect donations. Contributions of any size are welcome, with all funds going directly toward the purchase and installation of the new equipment.
