Brentford May Fayre A Resounding Success!

A good time was had by all, despite a few drops of rain!

Hounslow Mayor Genevieve Hibbs and a Fire Engine from the Historic Fire Engine Display at Kew Bridge Steam Museum.

The Steam Museum also brought a water pump which many children enjoyed, using their muscle power to raise a shower!
The Greensleeves Morris Dancers from Wimbledon.
Buzz Bee poses with the Morris Men. He didn't quite dare have a go!

BIAS, the Brentford Independent Supporters Association, held a raffle in support of the Football Club. Andrew Dakers drew the winning entries.

The signed away shirt was won by Tony Bull, here to man Hounslow's Animal Control stall which did an excellent job micro-chipping dogs and offering advice. A Gentleman's watch was one by a member of the Conservative Party's stall and the Lady's watch by Eliza.

Ruth Cadbury, Brentford Labour Ward Councillor, and Mary Macleod, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, share a smile.

All three Brentford ward councillors were there, with Matt Harmer manning the Labour Party Stall and Andrew Dakers for the Liberal Democrats.

Sara Ward, one of the event's organisers said "We put out the challenge to see what people knew about both Brentford and Baking and we were given some very lovely prizes by both Bijoux Box and Janet McNamara (local historian) to reward the winners! First, we asked Open House Chef, Graham, to judge the cake competition.

"There were many homemade cakes at the Fayre that day, mainly on stalls available for sale...but the 'Classic Victoria Sponge' made by Eliza stole the show. 'Delicious' was the judges verdict! Eliza, in her pretty floral apron was delighted to win a pale pink ceramic cake stand.

"Later, I was privileged to meet a lovely young lady who was eager to hand in her entry for the quiz - she had worked hard in her research, both online and on foot and I was very proud to read through her answers and then present her with the local history book 'Brentford Past'. She was delighted to have won and beamed with joy!"

Many other stalls did excellent work. Open House Cafe, from St Paul's produced very tasty food and drink. St Paul's School provided a crown making activity for the young. Brentford Toy Library's stall had a permanent crowd round it. Westplay provided story telling, puppets and many games. The donkeys were in great demand from the children and were not worked too hard. All the stallholders, and apologies to those not mentioned, worked very hard to contribute to the success of the May Fayre and the thanks of all participants go out to them. Many thanks also must go to all who helped organise the event and to Jim Lawes for his photographs.

If you have any comments or suggestions about the Fayre, both good and bad, please send them to editor@brentfordtw8.com and they will be used to improve next year's fayre.
