Starting next Friday (1 September) there will be a chance to visit a host of free events across the Brentford area as part of the Creative Mile festival.
This year’s event, which offers an opportunity to discover new creative talent and meet local makers will be hosted at 22 venues.
It is a free event from 1 - 3 September and everyone is welcome. Each of the venues showcases the creative community in Brentford with open studios, exhibitions, tours, workshops and demonstrations. You’ll need your walking shoes on to get around every venue but there’s plenty to eat and drink along the way
At 6pm on Friday, 1 September you can preview some of the artists’ studios until 9pm. It is a chance to visit new locations on the river, many of these are not usually open to the public. You’ll find nine artists at Studio Flox on Lot’s Ait; meet and greet the King of Brentford photography exhibition at ANIMA, Town Meadow. Follow the map showing where all artists are exhibiting and venue opening times, get a printed leaflet or, plan your route from www.creativemile.org.
A wishing tree is being grown on the Market Square and your wishes are needed. Just around the corner from the square is Great West Gallery in the old Magistrate’s Court. Don’t miss the first exhibition by Brentford Nudes at Digital Dock on the High Street.
And another first, there will be young artists from two local schools exhibiting. Brentford School for Girls has created something special at St Pauls. In addition, St Paul’s Spire Cafe is hosting 1-hour craft sessions for all on Saturday and Sunday, sign up at the café to book your place. Over at Boston Manor Park, over 100 young artists aged 5-11 years, from Cranford Primary School Art Collective have interpreted the artistic theme of water and are showing at Boston Manor Park Hub.
Continuing with the theme of water, Creative Mile is collaborating with Totally Thames festival which will be starting its festival in Brentford the same weekend. Meet Creatures of the Kelp, part of Totally Thames at Watermans Art centre. Live performances explore unidentified marine object sightings, get weekend timings here www.thamesfestivaltrust.org
