Reproductions of well-known works will be displayed outdoors
February 11, 2026
Brentford is gearing up for one of its most ambitious cultural moments yet, as residents are invited to help shape the next phase of Art on Your Doorstep, the National Gallery’s touring project that will bring life-sized masterpieces into everyday public spaces across the town.
The Creative Mile team, which runs the Brentford Art Trail each September, has announced that it will be one of just twelve partners nationwide working with the National Gallery over the next three years. The collaboration will see up to thirty high-quality reproductions of paintings from the national collection installed in unexpected locations throughout Brentford, from parks and riverside paths to shopfronts and community hubs.
The project is designed to make world-class art part of daily life. Each reproduction is presented at its original scale, complete with frame and fine detail, allowing viewers to examine brushstrokes and textures up close. Outdoors, free to view and shaped by local people, the exhibition aims to celebrate Brentford’s identity while opening up new ways for residents to encounter art as they move through the town.
Mark Pearce, Event and Creative Director for Creative Mile, said the partnership marks a significant moment for Brentford’s cultural landscape. “We are delighted to be working with the National Gallery on this project, bringing some of their famous art collection to Brentford. We are looking forward to making artistic connections to the town, including J. M. W. Turner who lived here.”
The Brentford edition of Art on Your Doorstep will be guided by the town’s landmarks, history and this year’s Creative Mile theme of love. Residents, artists, schools and community groups will all be invited to contribute ideas and help shape where the artworks appear and how they are interpreted.
The exhibition will launch during the Creative Mile weekend on 4 September 2026 and will remain in place until 14 February 2027, offering six months of open-air art for visitors and locals alike.
Creative Mile is organised by a not-for-profit Community Interest Company with support from local businesses, the council, Inspire Hounslow and donations from the public.
