Johnson's Island
October 25, 2024
There will be a rare opportunity to visit a waterside artists’ community in Brentford. Johnson's Island is planning to hold a Christmas event at which the artists based there will be exhibiting and selling their work.
The studios will be open from 11am to 5pm on the weekend of the 23 and 24 November. Entry is free.
Sculptures, paintings, prints and mosaics will all be on show. The Open Studio Weekend is a chance to meet, speak and buy work directly from the maker. It also gives a chance see inside a unique collection of buildings, set on an island formed by the river Brent and the Grand Union Canal.
The pint-sized island at the end of Catherine Wheel Road was once used for the old station master’s and lock keeper’s offices, and originally formed part of Isambard Brunel’s Brentford Dock.
It is now is home to 16 art studios surrounded by dappling canal views, colourful narrowboats, a grumpy heron and the occasional flash of a kingfisher.
