Seminar at Kew Bridge Steam Museum
The 100 inch Engine, Past, Present and Future
On June 20 will be held a Seminar on The 100 inch Engine, Past, Present and Future. Join resident expert John Porter as he discusses papers on the history of the 100 and 90 inch engines and a discussion on whether our last, unrestored engine should be restored. This event is aimed at the stationary steam engine buff and those interested in technical history. There will be extended access to both engines and a talk-through by the driver of the process of starting the 90. The archive team will have a special display in the library and extended access will be allowed to the rotative engines in the Steam Hall. This event is for those who pre-book only. The Museum will not be open to the public. Costs £65 (includes the film), reduced to £60 if booked by May 20.
In the evening there will be film clips on stationary steam engines in action (shown at the Musical Museum) - from Cornish engines in the 1930s, the last run of the 100 inch engine, to the contemporary scene in the sugar mills of Java plus private material. For those who only want to see the film the donation will be £7.50.

Built in the 19th century to supply London with water, the museum is recognised as the most important historic site of the water supply industry in Britain. Whatever your age or interest, there is a full, fun packed schedule of events and exhibitions for 2009.

Railway: The railway is set to go full steam ahead again from 5 April 2009. Visitors can enjoy a ride behind the museum’s resident steam locomotive, a narrow gauge steam railway, which offers free rides around the museum grounds each Sunday, until 25 October and also during selected special events.

Buses: 65, 237, 267, 391. All buses stop at Kew Bridge.
Main Line Rail: Kew Bridge (South West Trains from Waterloo via Clapham Junction).
Tube: Gunnersbury (District Line then 237 or 267 bus) or Kew Gardens (District Line then 391 bus)
Directions: From the south of Kew Bridge, go over the bridge, then immediately turn left towards Brentford. The Museum is about 100 yards along on the right hand side, on the corner of Green Dragon Lane and Kew Bridge Road. The museum entrance is in Green Dragon Lane.
From the M4 motorway, leave the motorway at Junction 2 and follow the A4 to Chiswick roundabout. Take the turning towards Richmond, Kew Bridge and Brentford (also signed for Kew Gardens). Go straight ahead at the next set of traffic lights, then move into the right hand lane to go straight ahead at the next set of lights, following signs to Brentford. The Museum is about 100 yards along on the right hand side, on the corner of Green Dragon Lane and Kew Bridge Road. The museum entrance is in Green Dragon Lane. Click here

Admission Prices:Annual multi-visit ticket, Adults £9.50 Concessions: £8.50 - Tickets are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. *Children aged 15 and under are admitted to the museum for FREE, but must be accompanied by a paying adult. Proof of age may be required. Please note different rates may apply at some special events and activities. The museum is closed December 22-29 inclusive.
