This Friday (20 October) will see the long-awaited opening of the Ealing Picturehouse cinema.

The launch date appears to have been chosen to coincide with the general release of the Martin Scorsese blockbuster, Killers of the Flower Moon, which features Robert de Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. The film is being shown several times a day on one of the eight viewing rooms.

Other films showing include Trolls Band Together Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie and Ken Loach’s The Old Oak. A number of Ealing Studios classics will also be shown during the first week including Went The Day Well and The Ladykillers.

The 900 seat, state-of-the-art venue opposite Ealing Town Hall is offering one free ticket to Ealing residents who sign up to its mailing list in part compensation for the fifteen year wait for the return of a cinema to the site.

Tickets for regular screenings cost £15.30 at weekends and on Bank Holidays including those on Friday evenings.

‘Peak’ time is Tuesday to Thursday after 5pm when tickets cost £14.90 and off-peak (before 5pm on the same days) is £12.30. On Mondays, except Bank Holidays, tickets cost £8.20.

Tickets bought online or by phone will be charged an extra 70p per ticket but there is no booking fee if you pay in person at the venue.

Discounted tickets are available for members, retired people, students and children and, according to its website, Picturehouse participates in the Meerkat Movies 2 for 1 promotion on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

3D films may cost £1.30 extra per person, not including 3D glasses (you can buy these at the cinema for an extra £1, free for Members, or bring your own).

For comparison, a standard peak ticket at the Ealing Project costs £10.50 for screenings after 5pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, all day Saturday & Sunday. Off-peak is £7.95 and on Tuesday they charge £6.50. Discounts are available for students, over 60s and blue light card holders as well as members and family tickets are offered. On Thursdays all tickets for students are £6 and that includes one free drink as well as half price on any additional food and drink.

Clare Binns, managing director of Picturehouse Cinemas said, “Picturehouse is all about showing the best films from around the world: films for everyone, young and old. So to open in Ealing, which has such a rich history of film production, is so exciting – it’s the perfect fit for a company committed to film on the big screen.”

“Ealing Picturehouse has been a long time coming, but we’re thrilled that the moment is here and we can open our doors to this wonderful palace of film.”
