Prolific Local Thief Given ASBO

John Joe Smith convicted at Ealing Magistrates Court

A prolific thief who has plagued the Chiswick area for a number of years was this week given an anti social behaviour order (ASBO) at Ealing Magistrates Court.

John Joe Smith, aged 19 of Manor Road, Twickenham, better known to local residents as one of the "boys on bikes" has got over 25 previous convictions, with many being for thefts from cars.

Among the conditions given in the ASBO, which lasts for two years, Smith is banned from riding or being in possession of a bicycle, covering his face in a public place in Ealing and Hounslow, wearing a hooded top or bandana anywhere in England and Wales and he is also banned from entering any car parks in the Boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow.

Should Smith breach these conditions, he commits a criminal offence, which can attract a custodial sentence.

DC Erin Kerr, of Hounslow CID said "John Joe's activities have been causing concern to local communities for a long time now, and, due to his habitual modus operandi, these conditions will help to put a brake on his criminal and anti social behaviour.

"I would encourage anyone who sees him breaking his conditions to tell us as soon as possible, so that we can act quickly to ensure he is apprehended."

People who see him breaking his conditions can call the police on 0300 123 1212 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
