Proposed designs for next stage on show

Ealing Council will be holding an open event for everyone who lives in the Acton area on the 3rd and 4th October from 10am to 4pm and 7th October from 6 to 9pm at the Oak Tree Community Centre. It will be an opportunity to find out more about the proposed designs for the next stage of the South Acton estate re-development.

On show will be designs and a model of how the second stage of the estate’s re-development could look. Local ward councillors, officers from Ealing Council’s housing department, Catalyst Housing Association, local police, Higgins the contractors and for phase one of the redevelopment, Proctor and Matthews the architects, will be at the event to answer any questions about the plans.

The second phase of the redevelopment is proposed to begin in 2006 and will involve the construction of 864 new homes. There has already been 86 new properties built on the estate and refurbishment of another 351 will start in the New Year, along with a brand new community centre.

The council’s vision for the South Acton estate is that the redevelopment will help incorporate it into the wider neighbourhood. Planners are using creative architectural designs like a community hub, which is envisaged to have shops, a health centre and key services and street layouts on the estate to achieve this.

There will also be a mixture of different types of properties and tenants on the estate.

Cllr Liz Brookes, cabinet member for regeneration, “ We really want as many people as possible, estate residents and members of the wider Acton Community to take this opportunity to find out more about how the estate could look in the future. The estate’s redevelopment involves and affects the whole of the community in Acton and I look forward to seeing and meeting with old and new faces alike.”
