Watermans receives second tranche of Arts Council support

Watermans in Brentford has successfully bid for more funding from the Culture Recovery Fund.

It received £67,000 in the latest tranche of support from the £1.57 billion fund along with 2,700 other recipients across the country.

The aim of the latest round of funding of over £300 million is to allow venues to reopen with confidence and bring back a full programme of arts and culture. It is from a pot which was held back last year to ensure the Culture Recovery Fund could continue to help organisations in need as the public health picture changed. It has been awarded by Arts Council England, as well as Historic England and National Lottery Heritage Fund and the British Film Institute.

Over £800 million in grants and loans has already been awarded to support almost 3,800 cinemas, performance venues, museums, heritage sites and other cultural organisations dealing with the immediate challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.

Watermans presents a busy year-round programme of performance, exhibitions, cinema, workshops and family events. It also offers an extensive outreach programme across the borough of Hounslow, including outdoor arts events at Bell Square.

Gunnersbury Park Museum also received £367,365 in the current round to enable the museum to expand their visitor experience, through indoor and outdoor cultural programmes including immersive cinema events and a touring exhibition. They will also be able to invest in digital outreach, creating their first permanent online exhibition.

Jan Lennox, Director of Watermans said, “We are delighted to have received this grant which is further recognition of Watermans’ high quality and ambitious programmes at the venue, out in the community and now online. As before, we will reopen at the earliest possible opportunity and this support from the Culture Recovery Fund will help us to continue engaging creatively with our community and deliver a full programme as we reopen’.

Sir Nicholas Serota, Chair, Arts Council England, said, “Investing in a thriving cultural sector at the heart of communities is a vital part of helping the whole country to recover from the pandemic. These grants will help to re-open theatres, concert halls, and museums and will give artists and companies the opportunity to begin making new work.”
