Torron Dewar's quick thinking may have saved best friend's life

A local teen's bravery and quick thinking have been recognised at a recent award ceremony. Isleworth and Syon pupil Torron Dewar, aged 14, of Clayponds Gardens was out in South Ealing with his friend Darren Dinan. They were set upon by an out of control aggressive dog and, in an attempt to escape, Darren smashed through the glass door of a newsagents. Torron immediately came to his assistance and stemmed the blood flow from serious wounds to his arms and head despite having no formal first aid training.

On the arrival of the police he gave calm instructions about the nature of the wounds and continued to administer first aid despite admitting to feeling queasy. Doctors later said that what Torron did probably saved his friend's arm and possibly his life. However Torron does not feel like a hero. He said, ""I guess not everybody would do what I did but I knew that if I didn't help my friend something bad would have happened he could have died or lost an arm."

Both boys, who have been friends since attending Green Dragon Primary School together, were treated for shock following the incident.

A 15 year old boy from Chiswick was arrested following the incident, on suspicion of GBH and permitting a dog to be out of control in public although no charges were made.

Earlier this month Torron attended a special ceremony to receive a Borough Commander's Commendation from Ealing Police for his actions.

Torron's mum, Debbie Dewar, who runs the Fantasy Land fancy dress shop on Ealing Road, said that the sight of her son receiving award had moved her to tears and that she is immensely proud of him.
