Reminder About Applying for School Places in Hounslow Borough
First choice schools less likely for late applications

Parents and carers whose children will be starting Reception in primary school or transferring to secondary school in Hounslow Borough in September 2023 can now begin applying for a school place for their child.

The easy online application process allows families to choose six schools for both primary and secondary. Families are encouraged to take their time exploring the range of options available. However, the councils says that to avoid disappointment, it is vital not to miss the application deadline.

Those with a child in Year 6 and born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012, will need to apply for a secondary school place. Applications must be submitted by Monday 31 October 2022.

Parents and carers with a child born between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019, will need to apply for a primary school (reception class). The deadline for applications is Sunday 15 January 2023.

Any applications received after the deadlines will be considered late, and late applications will only be processed after ‘on time’ applications.

Missing the deadline increases the risk of not being offered a place at a preferred school – even if the child already has a sibling there.

Councillor Lily Bath, Cabinet Member for Children, Learning and Employment, said, “Primary and secondary applications are an important step in every child’s life, and we have fantastic schools in Hounslow. No matter what school your child eventually attends, we will ensure they receive the highest standard of teaching from a diverse set of passionate teachers.

“I feel very lucky to have grown up in the borough and attended schools in Hounslow, and I hope your child has the same positive experience. Every year schools in Hounslow are providing children and young people with an enriching education and the support they need to develop and grow into well-rounded individuals.”

Every school in the borough has been rated either ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ during the last inspections conducted by Ofsted, the independent regulator responsible for standards in education, children’s services and skills.
