19 young runners from local schools took part in the TCS Mini London Marathon recently completing the famous final stretch of the London Marathon course.

On Saturday 22 April, the day before the full-sized marathon, members of Team Hounslow, aged 11 - 16, ran 2.6K down The Mall before receiving a medal and finishers t-shirt.

The borough’s top performer was Elliott Heath (Isleworth and Syon) in the Under-17 boys’ race, who finished with an impressive time of 8 minutes 21 seconds and placed 33rd in his category.

The young runners all trained at sites operated by Lampton Leisure, who manage the leisure facilities in the borough. The Lampton Leisure team worked with local schools and clubs in the community to select the participants for this year’s race. One of the young runners, Michael Garcia, even trained with Dave Daniels, former coach of Hounslow London Mini Marathon winner Sir Mo Farah, to help with his race preparation.

Jonathan Barbour, Sports and Community Development Officer at Lampton Leisure said: “We’d like to congratulate all the runners representing the Borough of Hounslow and their friends and family for supporting them throughout their training and the mini marathon itself. It was a great team day out and we couldn’t have done it without the help of the local schools who put forward runners and helped form our successful team.”
