The leader of Hounslow Council and the borough’s chief executive are heading to Cannes this week in an attempt to bring more investment to the area.

They will be part of a delegation to the MIPIM 2024 conference in the South of France, which claims to be largest event for property investors in the world.

Passes to the event at which the keynote speaker will be Sanna Marin, Former Prime Minister & Head of Government of Finland, cost over 2,000 euros.

Cllr Shantanu Rajawat and Niall Bolger say they will promote Hounslow as London's "Gateway to the World," spotlighting sectors such as media, technology, and logistics, and its strategic location with direct access to Heathrow Airport and the M4/A4 corridor.

They will unveil 'Opportunity Hounslow,' an investment prospectus detailing the borough's growth opportunities and potential developmental sites including the Fourth Mile scheme by Chiswick Flyover.

Speaking ahead of the conference, Cllr Rajawat said, “Our mission is to showcase Hounslow as a dynamic, vibrant and inclusive economy and community, ripe with potential and opportunity. We are committed to sustainable growth, community upliftment, and forging robust partnerships. MIPIM is the stage where we demonstrate Hounslow’s readiness to welcome investment that aligns with our vision for a greener, healthier, and thriving borough.”

Cllr Rajawat went on the emphasise the importance of partnership, such as working with the likes of Brentford FC, who will be joining Hounslow on an international panel, in delivering the ‘Ambitious for Hounslow’ corporate plan. This strategy envisions a robust local economy enriched by education, skilled work, successful businesses, and vibrant communities.

The council delegation will be attending 22 pre-arranged meetings, participating in 24 panel discussions and presentations, and attended 27 launches, and working lunches. These activities involve interactions with the Government, the Mayor of London, fellow council members, and potential investment partners.

Hounslow’s presence at MIPIM is supported by the Government’s Department for Business and Trade (DBT). Gus Wiseman, DBT Deputy Director and Head of Investor relations, said, "DBT are pleased to be joined by numerous local authority representatives at MIPIM, including Hounslow Council, to help promote investment into the UK."

Opportunity London is the partnership between London’s local government and businesses to attract investment to the capital. Jace Tyrrell, Opportunity London Chief Executive Officer, said, "It's a real strength to have our London Borough partners represented with ‘Team London’ at major real estate investment platforms such as MIPIM. It really boosts our proposition to the global marketplace presenting a pipeline of schemes that are investor ready. We are very pleased that the London Borough of Hounslow are joining our London delegation at MIPIM this year, with the aim of unlocking low carbon real estate, energy and infrastructure projects across our Great capital city."
