Hounslow's Director of Public Health, Kelly O'Neill joins partners at the launch of Healthy Hounslow

A new service to encourage residents of the borough of Hounslow to adopt healthier lifestyles has been launched.

Healthy Hounslow is to replace One You Hounslow which was launched in 2016 as a partnership between Hounslow Council and Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust (HRCH).

It will take over the role of encouraging people to have more lifestyles and make positive lifestyle choices such as eating well and stopping smoking.

The service will also include exercise on referral and community NHS health checks.

The services offered by Healthy Hounslow are available to anyone who lives, works, studies, or has a GP in the borough of Hounslow. Residents can engage with Healthy Hounslow directly or can be referred to the service by GPs and other local services.

To launch the new service, Hounslow Council has partnered with HRCH/Feltham and Bedfont Primary Care Network, MoreLife, BeeZee Bodies and Lampton Leisure.

The programme for the new service will include activities such as health coaching, targeted health check outreach, aftercare support clubs and further action on food insecurity, in addition to building on the existing support for weight management, physical activity and smoking cessation.

Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Health Integration, Councillor Samia Chaudhary, said, “One You Hounslow has supported thousands of people in our borough to lead healthier and more active lifestyles, such as helping over 6,000 people quit smoking. The impact on people’s health can be life changing.

“We will build on this success, by working closely with our local partners to provide the new Healthy Hounslow service. They all have the expertise and a proven track record to deliver the best health outcomes for our residents.

“Good health and wellbeing are vital and we are committed to using Healthy Hounslow to improve the quality of life for everyone in our borough.”

Welcoming the new Healthy Hounslow alliance, Stuart King, who is managing director of the BeeZee Bodies, which will provide weight management services, said, “We’re excited to be part of the Healthy Hounslow partnership, supporting families and adults to make sustainable healthy lifestyle changes around nutrition and physical activity. We’ve had the privilege of working in Hounslow for the past year, our team have delivered services, undertaken insight work within the local community, and built networks with local organisations and health professionals. This fantastic groundwork has given us a clearer picture of what people want, and how we can provide effective support for the people of Hounslow.”

As part of the new service, Lampton Leisure will support 700 residents through healthy activity programmes annually. Lampton Leisure will also introduce physical activity sessions within the borough that will see 1,000 residents take part in walking sports, multi-sport sessions, basketball, tennis and group exercise classes.

Rowland Omamor, Managing Director of Lampton Leisure, said, “We’re proud to be a founding member of the Healthy Hounslow alliance, making our facilities even more accessible to the community and delivering positive health outcomes for the borough. The exercise on referral programme is a valuable initiative that we are delighted to support with our quality facilities and experienced instructors. At Lampton Leisure, we are guided by our core value of bringing health, fitness and wellbeing services to the community and joining Healthy Hounslow is helping us to continue achieving this.”

Stephen Curran, Managing Director of Morelife, added, “Morelife is delighted to be an alliance partner within the new Healthy Hounslow Integrated partnership delivering smoking cessation, health coaching and training. This new and innovative approach Hounslow Public Health has adopted can only be a positive move in supporting the residents in becoming healthier and happier.”
