Ruth Cadbury, MP for Brentford and Isleworth, completed the London Marathon this Sunday (4 October).

It was the fortieth race held and the first to be virtual with the non-elite runners choosing their own course.

The 26.2 mile run took her from her home in Brentford along the Thames to Hampton Court and back via Chiswick. Afterwards she said, "it was my third London Marathon, and certainly the wettest! But it's a great sense of achievement to have finished, and I'm glad to be able to raise funds for two great local charities supporting people who have become isolated and lonely due to Covid19."

She was raising money for two local charities; Our Barn Youth Club and Hounslow AgeUK.

Ms Cadbury said, "Both charities need extra funds now to address the isolation experienced by those they support who have missed their normal social and support activities" .

Our Barn, based in Isleworth and Osterley, helps young adults with learning disabilities or autism find meaningful and worthwhile activities. The MP’s fundraising will help allow some of the area’s most isolated young people take part, contribute to and belong in their community.

AgeUK Hounslow supports older people, their families and carers across the borough. The money raised will help them to extend their Telephone Befriending service – which has been essential during the pandemic since most of their activities had to stop.
