Brentford Fountain Centre Closing?

The receptionist at Isleworth swimming pool said that Brentford Fountain Centre is going to close soon as be demolished for the new Brentford FC stadium.Does anyone know about this?  I know that when the stadium was first mentioned years ago there was talk of replacing the Fountain Centre with new facilities, but I did not think that was part of the current stadium plans.  The Fountain Centre is looking quite tired inside – if it is being demolished could this be why it has not had money spent on it?

Potatoes

Thought I might grow some this year in those grow bags.  Any tips on growing them?  Where to buy the grow bags, or are they all the same?  What about variety?  Do I have to worry about fungus or blight?I was thinking of Vivaldy as we buy these in Sainsbury's and they are scrummy baked.Thanks

Development of Brentford High Street

Does anyone know what's happening with the development of Brentford High Street?  It seems absolutely ages since Ballymore covered the buildings in hopeful anticipation that at last something would be done to improve Brentford.  Despite the very interesting weekly newsletter from Guy Lambert we never seem to hear about the High Street development.  What's going on?

Blue disabled badges

Cllr Guy' Lambert's blog this week"Other things like Blue badge fraud would not be worth investigating if it was a pure matter of economics but they infuriate people and it was good to see that sanctions were applied to 13 people out of the 18 investigated."The results of the 18 investigations into possible misuse of badges are pretty good if 13 of the 18 were caught out.  What sanctions were imposed I wonder?  Any cars crushed?

Attempted break in Rowan Road

Residents be on guard, I've just been informed that an attempted burglary was made in Rowan Road. Three masked men were seen jumping over the back garden fence as neighbour shouted, they then got into a BMW.

ENERGY BOOST on Monday

Energy Therapists will be at the London Buddhist Vihara, The Avenue, W4 1UD on Monday, 13th March, between 11am and 1pm (last session 12.45).  The session takes about 15-20 minutes and I am sure that you will feel really good at the end of that time, with lots of vital energy to enable you to enjoy the rest of your week!  A number of therapists come in each month and give their services free.  The Vihara kindly allow us to use the hall at no charge so a donation is most welcome as this enables us to give all donations to the Vihara.These sessions are not related to any religion, everyone is welcome.

Resurfacing Crowther Avenue

Received this classic letter from highways department dated 3rd March. Second paragraph "we will begin resurfacing on Monday 3rd March". Sixth paragraph referring to trimming of boundary vegetation " please ensure it is completed by Sunday 3rd March" . As my wife said " do they proof read these letters " answer no. This is like a few months ago when we received a map outlining proposed CPZ outside my house and neighbors was marked for parking bay and yellow line we have a shared crossover! Map did not show a single crossover in Crowther Avenue. No response from highways. Oh well rant over.Hounslow get your act together when you raise our council tax.

Rise in council tax

In July 2016 I asked the Council how much Council Tax had not been collected , the answer was £5.2 million pounds !!! This is not a made up figure ,but came from Mr Dennisons office at the Civic Centre under the Freedom of Information Act....I wounder if Mr Dennison should be paid on results !!! I understand that some residents may have diificulty in paying but there are a lot of "Wont pays" who should be made to pay upAny comments Mr Dennison ?

Garden Waste Sacks

This morning I received a letter (dated 23 February) from LB Hounslow. I have been racking my rapidly diminishing grey cells to think of any logical reason why the change in the colour of garden waste sacks is being introduced. I must be missing an important fact.Can anyone help me out?Last year I was provided with two spanking new green sacks and lovely yellow tags to attach to them. The green bags (and the tags) are still in perfect condition.The main part of the text in the letter from LBH reads as follows (I quote verbatim):"It has come to our attention, that you have been presenting green sacks of garden waste for collection. These are now obsolete and we will be no longer collecting Green sacks.I have arranged for a delivery of 2 brown sacks for the future collections of your garden waste. We do not need the sacks returned, you can either utilise them for your own use, or dispose of them in your general grey waste bin Once you have received your brown garden sacks, please do not present your green sacks. Brown sacks only please."

Council sports centres

I cannot find any price lists or membership prices for our sports centres.  I want to look at prices for individual visits and prices for monthly memberships.  Maybe I am not looking in the right place?  Can anyone help?

Save the Syon Hill Farm 200 year old wall before developers knock it down!

Long before the Gillette Building was erected in the late 1930's, and long before the Great West Road was opened in the 1920's, there was a farm up there on the top of Syon Hill.Many of these old farms in Brentford and Isleworth had walls erected some 200 years ago..and samples can be seen around Osterley Park, at Wyke Green Farm on Windmill Lane(where Seccombes the builders merchants are now) and in Northumberland Avenue off Syon Lane...opposite the entrance to the Homebase Superstore.These walls are part of our Heritage and need to be protected from demolition.We don't want bulldozers driven by incomers (who may not be well informed) to accidently knock one down!  A campaign is underway I gather on the Northumberland Estate by a lady I met on Saturday. She had never heard about BrentfordTW8.com although she produces,I believe, a Community Newsletter for her area.Maybe Sarah can elaborate..as this is all in Felstead country!Pictures and map to follow.

Stray Dog Found (1st March)

A stray  dog was been collected this morning from a local vet practice. It was apparently found at or just outside Brentford FC. It will be kept by the Animal Warden Service for 7 days after which the transfer window will open.It is a male staffie cross, probably in its middle years. Lively enough so could still do a job in midfield and without either collar/tag or a microchip is potentially a free agent. Any enquiries to animalwarden@hounslow.gov.uk please.

Hounslow's Labour Group in Private Eye - yet again

What a bunch of pathetic, nasty people make up the majority Labour group of Hounslow Council. It appears that some of them have got the hump about reports on their individual performance, apparently "telling the truth about Labour councillors performance is an 'uncomradely' act". These figures appeared in the Chronicle in August 2016, so of course not wanting the electorate to know what they were, or weren't doing, there had to be a scapegoat. They have decided that Cllr. Gurpal Viridi is the guilty party on the basis of no evidence whatsoever, the chief whip - Shantanu Rajawat (who he?) who completed 13 cases in 2015-16 as opposed to Cllr. Virdi's 233, organised what the 'Eye' calls a 'kangaroo court'.This is the bit that is breathtaking in its gall, Cllr. Virdi was found guilty of "leaking potentially damaging documents to the media" and "having brought [the] Labour Group into disrepute".What? The appalling saga of Cllr. Curran's utterly reprehensible behaviour over the wheelie bin saga last year didn't do that? Cllr. Virdi it is noted has been a thorn in the side of the leadership for exposing attempts to corrupt the planning system among other things.How spiteful can you be? Cllr. Virdi cannot now stand in future elections for the party Labour and has been suspended from the party.They don't deserve him, God forbid anyone should try and shine a light in some murky council corners.

Your voices are being heard!

Thanks to everyone who has signed the petition to oppose the property developer’s plans which will close this supermarket for up to 2 years and build a development of 10 stories high dominating and totally overshadowing the local area, including St Paul’s School.Due to your opposition to their plans the Property Developer is now reconsidering its plans and amending their proposals to Hounslow Council.  We will await their new proposals but for now please continue to oppose the plans as currently proposed.
