Brentford 3 Carlisle United 1
Brentford extended their impressive run to 11 points from the last five games when after a three week break owing to the weather a 3-1 victory saw off the challenge of a skillfull Carlisle United team.
The Cumbrians must hate the sight of Myles Weston as the speedy winger took his tally to four goals in the two games against Carlisle with another double this afternoon.
Yet for most of the first half it all seemed a lot different as Brentford, ring rusty after the long gap without football, played second fiddle to a rampant Carlisle team that stroked the ball around well led by the impressive veterans Harte and Kavanagh.
The Bees were indebted to Wojciech Szczesny for two excellent early saves but they hung on. The tenacious Kevin O'Connor seized control of the midfield and against the run of play a quick free kick put Charlie MacDonald away and he held off the challenge of the defenders before squaring the ball for the unmarked Weston to slot home.
Brentford took heart from this goal and Bostock showed off his party pieces to good effect before his venemous volley was spilled by Collin for Myles to whack home his second soon after the break.
The second half belonged more to Brentford with the defence a cohesive unit with debutant Tommy Smith and the massive Leon Legge a dominant pair in the middle. Foster was solid and Ryan Dickson defended well and combined beautifully with the flying Weston down the left.
Szczesny defied the laws of gravity and nature with an incredible close range save from Ansiyah before Legge's last ditch tackle on Dobie was unluckily deemed a penalty by Mr East and Harte slotted the penalty home.
A horrid last ten minutes looked likely but it was the Bees who dominated with Weston, Wood and MacDonald missing chances before deep in stoppage time Ryan Dickson bulldozed his way through on the left and hammered the ball home.
Three points, a decent performance, 10th place in the League and an FA Cup contest to come on Tuesday.
Well done to everyone who worked so hard to get the game on - their efforts were totally justifed and rewarded by the outcome
