Double Yellow Lines

Resident's petitionTo Resident/Occupiers Hamilton Road AreaProposed Controlled Parking ZoneDear Resident/Occupier,You like me will have received a letter from the London Borough of Hounslow informing us that they will not pursue the Controlled Parking Zone proposal.  Their arguments were that the majority of respondents were opposed to the proposal.  I think too that they were persuaded that they should not consider a street by street introduction as this would not reflect the view of the area as a whole. However, at their meeting they decided they would like to introduce "At Any Time" restrictions at road junctions "where visibility and access for pedestrians is restricted".  They argue that these restrictions will also "ensure larger vehicles" can smoothly negotiate these junctions.  Formal consultation has now commenced.I want to argue very strongly against this proposal.  There is no question that larger vehicles, including emergency service vehicles or refuse contractor's vehicles, are currently unable to negotiate these junctions.  In addition they have been absolutely no accidents involving pedestrians since I have lived in Clifden Road, which is coming up to 16 years. The double yellow lines will of course reduce the already limited parking space available to residents.  Some people, although I'm not one of them, believe the council's action is pay back for voting down the CPZ proposal. Double yellow lines at, as yet unspecified road junctions are unnecessary, will add to the pressures of parking, will lead to increased policing and generally raise resident stress.  In addition they will involve needless expense.I note to that the consultation will be taking place during August when the number of people will be away, or on holiday.I urge each and every one of you to write to Andrew Nye, who is a Traffic Management Engineer.  His e-mail address is andrew.nye@hounslow.gov.uk.Also contact your local councillor. Tour de Brentford - Tropical Zoo Secs Appeal

(This is picking up from a thread elsewhere on the forum)The ride happens THIS SATURDAY!!!! So in the spirit of Bob Geldolf at Live Aid - give me your f***ing money!Seriously, the big message I want to get out there is that the Tropical Zoo is a valuable resource/attraction/organisation at least on a par with the Musical Museum and the Butterfly House.  We must not lose it but there is a chance that could happen.  However, the opportunity to save it is very do-able if we all pull our fingers out NOW. The shortfall of £350K which they need to make the move sounds like a lot - it is - but it comes down to approx. £1.50 per person in the Borough.  Given the Tropical Zoo serves all of West London that should be easily achievable. Please donate at www.JustGiving.com/Jon-HardyOR at the following pubs:The Rising Sun on London Road,The Red Lion, Linkfield Road IsleworthThe Six Bell, London Road, BrentfordThe George and Dragon, London Road, BrentfordThe Magpie and Crown BrentfordThe Weir, Market Place, BrentfordThe Beehive, BrentfordThe Woodlands pub in St. John's Road IsleworthThe Swan, IsleworthThe Griffin, BrentfordThe Coach and Horses, London Road, SyonThe Express Tavern, Kew Bridge RoadDelicacies, South Street Isleworthor on the day at THE FINAL PITSTOP o/s The Treaty Centreor THE FINISH in MarketSquare BrentfordPlease dig deep and give generously: we need to do this now; extinction lasts a long time.

Blitz Eyewitnesses Sought for BBC Radio 4 Documentary

I work for an independent production company called Juniper, we make documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4 primarily. At the moment we are in the process of making a series on the Blitz for BBC Radio 4. We are very keen to find some eye witnesses to interview for the programmes and I thought that this forum might be a good to ask for assistance in this area. In particular I am looking for eyewitnesses for a programme on London I am producing, the theme is “the technology of defence” so I would love to speak to anyone with experience of the following:• The Blackout• Sirens / Warning Systems• Fire Fighting• Planes• Search Lights• Barrage Balloons• Bomb Disposal Units• Shelters (Anderson, Morrison, Surface)• The German “Beam” navigation system + Its Disruption• Decoy Systems, dummy aeroplanes, fake landing strips to fool the German bombers• P and C – parachute and cable – a sort of rocket fired snare which aimed to  bring down German planesI am especially keen to find anyone who might have worked on the anti-aircraft gun that was located in Gunnersbury Park. The programme is in production now so I’m keen to speak to people as soon as possible, the series itself will be broadcast on Radio 4 in the second week of September.I would be very happy to travel to wherever our interviewees are currently living and we would try to take up as little of their time as possible, I imagine the interview would take about an hour but I would be very happy to make it shorter if desired. If you could circulate this I would be extremely grateful and if you have any questions about the series please don’t hesitate to ask.Best wishes,Maxmax.obrien@junipertv.co.uk
