11am Meditation Class starting on Tuesday 4th October

Richard Jones, a highly experienced meditation teacher, practitioner and Buddhist Lecturer, is starting a meditation group at the London Buddhist Vihara next month.The group will take place every Tuesday at 11am, starting 4th October.  The format will be:Guided metta meditation Breathing meditation General chat - which can cover a variety of topics, not just Buddhism.  Of course, nobody has to stay for this!The meditation practice should last about half an hour.  All welcomed.   Venue:  The London Buddhist ViharaThe AvenueLondon W4 1UDThe Vihara is located a minute's walk from Turnham Green tube and close to bus stops E4, 440 and 94.  There are parking bays outside which are free for 30 minutes.For more information please contact Richard Jones: richardpeb@yahoo.co.uk

Hounslow's air quality and the affect on health

Let's be blunt, the smelly air from Mogden is poo particles floating around for us to breathe in, is that so?Since the restrictions on rubbish disposal and the hike in skip prices in recent years we have noticed more bonfires, some of which are quite caustic.  There was one going strong late last night and pretty much over night into this morning.  Lots of building sites so it is difficult to work out where the critters are.A few years ago I wrote about a bonfire nearby which was going most of the day with billowing smoke and I reported it because I could not use my washing line, open doors and windows or sit outside.  The builder had somebody employed to feed the fire all day.  Much cheaper than a skip.Following my complaint a visit  was made by the 'support the builders' person inside the Council who told the builder it was perfectly okay to carry on with his bonfire as long as it was a contained fire.  The old water tank taken out of the loft was put into use to contain the fire and on it went.We know something is going on because of the affect on a family member who is continually clearing his throat and using more asthma inhalers.  Another neighbour moved to Staines and could not believe how his sinus problems cleared up, within a week there was a noticeable improvement.What on earth are we breathing?

Parking Tickets in Haverfield Estate

I have recently been issued a parking ticket in Walnut Tree Road,for parking by a drop down curb.Its the stretch of road that the council installed a double yellow line the whole length of Walnut Tree Road.After a re-think they decided to remove a section from the middle of this line. You would think that it would be okay to park where the yellow line ends, this is not the case because after the yellow line stops there is a drop down curb, this is where I have been issued the ticket.My question is:Why have the council removed the already placed double yellow line from crossing the drop down curb and stopping at a point leaving the curb on an unrestricted part of the road.For clarity and fairness the line should incorporate the drop down curb.Is the reason a creation of a "Honey Trap"?I would love your comments and would be interested in your parking experiences on the Haverfield Estate.

Parking for a food truck

Hello everyone.I'm looking for somewhere to park my food truck.We've been paying to park it by the tea pigs offices but the landlords have said they're building or selling the land or something, either way deal's off and we need to find the old girl a new home.Around about the size of a transit but taller, I'd like it to be semi-secure ie not on a road side. Anyone know of any businesses that would rent a parking space? Or some land that's due for development where someone might be up for renting it out?Any suggestions welcome.Thanks all

Recycling glasses

Can anyone advise how we are supposed to deal with old glasses (the drinking kind I mean).  Should we put them in the green bin. I know they won't take broken glass.  Thanks in advance.

Clifden Road

What is the status of the land at the eastern end of Clifden Road behind the new houses, I assume it was the old school playground.  Is it private land, who does it belong to? There's a car that's been parked there for months, it's either covered in astro-turf or been there that long it's covered in grass?  It it taxed I wonder?  Some of the walls have numbers on (houses on Clifden Road, Brook Road and Hamilton Road?) - do they really own that car-parking space?Just curious as I often walk past there.

Last Friday event at Great West House

Hello,Last Friday at GW2 Bulding there was an event.live DJ, dancing fireworks barsa lot of people were dancing, lot of teenagers but I did not see bad behaviors What was the event?I live nearby and to perfectly honestly did not bother me at all and it was quite nice to see some sort of night life activity in Brentford.....

Are Single Member Decisions Open to corruption?

There are an increasing amount of Single Member Cabinet decisions in Councils of late and many of them have ramifications that really go beyond the sensibility of one individual making a decision.The connections between Cllr Sampson and Parking operators and the fact that clearly the wool has been pulled over the eyes of compatriots who dare not question or even get the opportunity to ask questions in Council seems to defeat the integrity of having an elected council.Likewise the dealings with Cllr's Mann and Ealing's Mahfouz with the WLWA and Waste companies.Clearly there are not being any pertinent or probing questions asked by fellow councillors irrespective of political leaning.Ealing Councillors are starting to report back to residents that they too are frozen out of the dealings within an inner cabinet.Is the same going on in Hounslow?  Should it? But more so the risk of an individual being corrupted.It is well known that Cllr Curran has had cosy chats with Ballymore representatives. As Council Leader it's bound to be an encounter both officially and unofficially.But does that make it fit and proper and morally right for him ( or any one else) to be making a single decision in which huge amounts of money and resources not to mention the livelihoods and well being of residents and employees?Especially with contracts or compulsory purchase orders. These are not supposed to be for the benefit of private developers or external interests.People seem to forget that Brentford Football Club, dear to many a heart, is a hard nosed business and now entwined with property developing. For the benefit of whom?Does that not leave Mr Curran or anyone in his position vulnerable to corruption or manipulation?Is this a good thing for democracy in an era where lobbying and manipulation is so embedded.?Surely this is something that needs to be unanimous and openly discussed and recorded in council and every councillor ought to be involved. Where is the morality and wisdom?

Energy Boost?

Energy boost?Energy Therapists will be at the London Buddhist Vihara, The Avenue, W4 1UD on Monday, 12th September, between 11am and 1pm (last session 12.45).  The session takes about 15-20 minutes and I am sure that you will feel really good at the end of that time, with lots of vital energy to enable you to enjoy the rest of your week!  A number of therapists come in each month and give their services free.  The Vihara kindly allow us to use the hall at no charge so a donation is most welcome as this enables us to give all donations to the Vihara.These sessions are not related to any religion, everyone is welcome.
