Brentford canal

Anyone else notice raves the last two Sunday's on the canal, around the Hanwell side, I find it quite distressing while training along there!  Who can I report this to?

The Clifden Road White Elephant

Around 4 or 5 years ago 23 Clifden Road was bought by a developer who, after starting work, put in a planning application for a single-storey rear extension, two-storey side extension and roof extension, and a “bed-in-shed” annex.  The application turned the property into a 7 bedroom, 6 bathroom house.Despite the plans being clearly designed for multi-occupancy bed-sits the Hounslow Planning Officer inexplicably believed the developer’s story that he intended the house only for his daughter and grandchild.   Following vehement objections from local residents the Hounslow Planning Officer tried to backtrack and deny the application so it then went to the Planning Inspector who went on to approve the plans.  The application was granted with one of the clauses stating that multi-occupancy is not permitted.The building work was completed I think sometime in 2013, the daughter and grandchild never moved in, and the house was put on the market at £2.3million.  Not surprisingly the house has not sold.  In my view no family will be interested in such a large house with tiny bedrooms, miniscule kitchen and “convenient” toilet/shower located off the main reception room.  Since the work was completed the property has remained largely empty thought reportedly has had a couple of short-term tenants.  Such a waste that a prime property in a sought after location, and with off-street parking, was ruined by the developer’s plans and the Planning Officers who approved them.The price has reduced a few times and is now down to offers in Excess of £1,250,000.I’d be interested in other’s views on the property and its likely future.

La Seranata in Twickenham

Has anyone ever been to this restaurant on the corner of Whitton Rd and London Rd or know anyone who has venutured inside because in all the years I have lived in the area I have never ever seen a customer use the place?The menu is like something from the 70`s and starters include minestrone soup or ham and melon and main meals include spaghetti with prawns and a cream sauce or chicken with a sauce

Saffron Walden and the Great West Road (1920's)

I was speaking with a 95 year old gentlemen yesterday and he told me of his family move to new houses on the Great West Road in 1928. No dual carriageway in those days.... just three lanes, with the middle one for overtaking in either direction!As the row of new houses didn't have house numbers his Dad decided to call their new home  'Walden' as Saffron Walden is where they had lived previously.A few years  later another row of new houses appeared on the other side of the Great West Road.... again with no house numbers... and my friend's family then noticed a new house calling itself 'Saffron'. Once again a case of folk having moved from Saffron Walden.Thus a re-union of distant friends and School chums via house names on the old Great West Road.... Heston end.I was charmed by the story. Spend time listening to the stories of senior citizens!

A Note to Hounslow Planning Approval

Between Two and Four stories.That’s the traditional height of buildings in Brentford.Not eight, twelve or twenty four.Get a backbone, tell the developers the limits and stop letting them turn Brentford into Croydon, because the developers are laughing at you behind your back and Croydon is as ugly as sin.

potentially dangerous structure

I am trying to report a potentially dangerous structure in a ground floor of a block of flats in Brentford on behalf of a relation.There is a crack from floor to ceiling in an outside wall that you can see though, we got though to building control who cannot help.We tried Hounslow Housing repairs who are just not answering their phone.So if Building control cant help, what sort of council are we dealing with.

Helping people into work - Yeh right!

My youngest son has happily been working for an agency at a school for a couple of months, he was initially told that a DBS check would take a matter of weeks which he found really funny, knowing his older brother had previously been told by the vetting service they had a backlog of 37,000! Today because he is - as he thought - still waiting for the check to be done - he has been told he can no longer work at the school although they want to keep him. He has contacted the DBS vetting people only to be told it could take another EIGHT WEEKS before they get their act together. What a bloody shambles - no-one disputes that the safety of children is paramount, but for God's sake if we are going to insist on this potty system the least the government could do is make sure it works efficiently.

Is Mary Macleod still the prospective MP for the conservatives and working for them in such a role, or does the local group hold another election for that post?I used to receive regular updates and letters from her office and Cllr Matt Harmer used to send a newsletter but as soon as the election results were in they all stopped.

Ironic or hypocritical?

See that the front page of The Chronicle reports that Hounslow council have cashed in on renting out their multi storey Civic Centre car park for Rugby fans who can then jump on a shuttle to Twickers. Yet, enterprising residents associations etc. were jumped on from a great height when they wanted to raise much needed funds by doing the very same. the Dear Leader banging on about 'special insurance'  and a hundred and one spurious reasons why they couldn't be allowed to the same in their car parks. Hounslow reckon to earn a cool £1000K, a clear case of don't do as I do - do as I tell you?

Calling local crafters

Hello Brentford!I think I was last on here to tell you about gardening at Osterley Park for young people with learning disabilities. That's coming on a treat and we secured a full year's funding on the basis of the pilot we ran. We're taking our next steps: developing a social enterprise that will contribute to our running costs. We want to sell craft items at local craft fairs and markets. Do you have a 'horde' of unused craft items you would like to donate to a local good cause?We're looking for card-making bits and pieces, wool, fat quarters and so on. If you have anything please let us know and we can arrange drop off/collection.We are also going to be holding a craft social very soon, in a relaxed environment such as a coffee shop. DISGUSTING ACTIONS BY VANDALS at GWQ

I cannot believe what happened either last night or early this morning at Trico House. I was told by a GWQ resident that police were round this morning because some disgraceful pathetic excuse for human beings decided to tamper with the locks at the new Floreat school. Why would anyone want to stop 4 year olds going to school??? I understand people have reservations regarding the site but to actually act like fourteen year old hoodlums and waste everyone's time and money is utterly disgraceful. I really hope that those who committed this act are sufficiently punished!
