Food Market Chiswick looking for a new manager

We're looking for a new manager for the Sunday market at Dukes Meadows. 8 till 3 on the day, with an hours lunch break, plus around two hours in the week, which is flexible as to when it's worked. The market is open every Sunday apart from Easter and New Year, but cover can be arranged for holiday. Missing Tortoiseshell Kitten: Braemar Road area

Cariad, a 'torti'-coloured kitten with a long tail and aged 6 months, left our garden in Braemar Road at 9.30pm on Monday and hasn't yet returned.  She rarely stays away more than a few minutes.  She is a curious kitten.  If you live in Braemar or Ealing Road, or Mafeking Avenue, please would you check your garden sheds, or any room that had a window open on Monday night, to see if she's trapped inside.  She is much loved and missed.  Please call me on 07881 588831 or PM me if you have any news.  Thanks.(Haven't worked out how to post a picture).

Appropriation of Brent Lea Rec

LBH have given notice that they intend to appropriate Brent Lea rec overriding covenants that already exist. This recreation ground was given for the sole purpose of just that, recreation. This is tantamount to theft.The notice is in the Chronicle and we have until 31st July to write to Mr Sonny McCann, Regeneration, Economic Development and Environment Directorate, Hounslow Council, Civic Centre, Lampton Rd, Hounslow, TW3 4DN.If they appropriate the land then they can sell it to Floreat School for £60,000 and give them a 125 year lease. If the school fails, then  Floreat can sell on the land to anyone for anything!!

Electoral Commission report on general election

It is disheartening to see that despite the returning officer's poor performance in the general election, we have now had problems with the recent Brentford by election.  4 streets (amounting to over 400 voters) did not receive polling cards.  I had a number of phonecalls from people in the affected roads asking me whether I knew where they should vote, or indeed if there was in fact a by election.  So, I'm not sure where Steve Curran's faith in Hounslow's election procedures comes from.

Steve Curran called me on Friday with this news and asked me to wait until this was released today. All our hard work has paid off. Bring a bottle and a picnic from 7.00pm.The council has received a clear message from Brentford people that their decisions will be challenged. PR 310910 August 2015For Immediate ReleaseAppropriation of Brent Lea for Floreat no longer going aheadHounslow Council is no longer considering whether or not to appropriate Brent Lea for a temporary site for Floreat Free SchoolAn alternative site for Floreat has been agreed, meaning the decision on the appropriation – which was due to be made by the Chief Executive in consultation with the Leader of the Council – will no longer need to be made.  While the consultation process for the appropriation was ongoing, the EFA in conjunction with Floreat continued to look for alternative sites for the school. On 30 July it was confirmed that an alternative site had been identified at Trico House, in the Great West Quarter development, and that heads of terms for the lease had been agreed between the EFA and Trico Developments.  Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said:“The appropriation for the temporary school will no longer be going ahead but I am grateful to the public for spending time submitting their responses to the consultation.“Hounslow Council will continue to cooperate with the EFA to identify a suitable permanent site and await the sequential testing results which will inform the next steps – which we will be sure to keep residents informed of.“We need a permanent school in the Brentford area, as providing good quality school places is a top priority for us, but we also need to take into account the importance of preserving our green space.”

Redlees meeting postponed

If you were going to the Friends meeting tomorrow at Isleworth library it is cancelled until 9th September at 6.30.p.m. I didn't receive any notification so I don't know how many people who gave their contact details, as I did, have been told. I couldn't see anything in the library about this yesterday, so if you know anyone who was going please let them know. I'll put this on Streetlife and Twitter as well, thanks Carillion.

Food Recycling Collection

This makes a tremendous difference to what you have left over in your black bag - it means that it doesn't get wet and smelly.The Recycle Now website has been updated and there are a serious of little videos showing how different householders are tweaking the system to suit their lifelstyles.It could be a good school holiday project to find out what you waste the most of and to discuss and come to decisions on how you can tweak what you buy and how you prepare and cook it to make less food waste and save money.  Find some new recipes - or invent your own.Also a good holiday project to check out what else you could recycle and where when you sort out your bedroom!  http://www.recyclenow.com/recycle/food-recycling

Hounslow 2nd most miserable place to live in UK

From the StandardNine London boroughs have been voted the most miserable places to live in the UK in a new 'happiness' survey. Nine out of ten of the worst locations to live were in the capital, based on a poll of residents' satisfaction.The borough of Barking and Dagenham took the accolade for the most miserable place to set up home in the UK. Dagenham also holds the title of Britain's most burgled area.In second place was Hounslow, once voted the worst place for fuel theft due to it being the home of Heathrow Airport.The north west London boroughs of Brent and Harrow followed closely behind. Simon Anderson receives invitation to assist Labour Mayoral campaign

I note from Simon Anderson's Facebook page that he has received an e-mail from Isleworth Labour councillor Ed Mayne seeking his support for Tessa Jowell as London Mayoral candidate, and another from the local party asking for his help knocking on doors in support of the Labour campaign.Some might consider it odd that a man who is alleged to have campaigned for their opposition during the general election should be seen by the local Labour group as a potential helper.  Can anybody explain this bizarre and contradictory behaviour from these fine upstanding people?Over to you Jim... ;-)

Contacting the Civic Centre by phone ...in this case trying to speak to Animal Warden

Phones open at 9.00 and at 3 minutes past I was number 8.  At 9 minutes past I have just gone to position 6, where I still am as I post.  All I want is to speak to or leave a message directly with the animal warden as the emails I sent at the weekend didn't send back an acknowledgement email so I don't know if they have disappeared.Just gone to 5 at 9.13 ....

New posters on this forum

Others, like me, may have noticed the plethora of new posters on this forum bemoaning the decision to abandon plans to appropriate a chunk of Brent Lea rec for the purposes of building a school.I'm sure everybody will agree that, notwithstanding our opposing views on this one particular topic, it is encouraging to have so many new contributors to this forum.Especially seeing that, as I'm reliably advised, at least four of the five were not even resident in this constituency as recently as twelve months ago.I do hope they will hang around and contribute to this forum once this particular issue is done with.  Don't you?

Just seen on Chiswick W4 that the temporary school is not going ahead. That really is great and well done to the local residents who fought this stupid proposal. Hopefully our park in Isleworth will also be returned to local people for their leisure and enjoyment in the not too distant future.
