Driving and mobile phones
It has been well publicised in the media, that with effect from the end of February, (not sure of the exact date) there will be a mandatory £60 fine and three endorsement points on your driving licence for the offence of driving while using a mobile phone. I don't know what others think, but if the call is absolutely necessary, there are hands free options avalable.Children and others have been killed because someone was using their mobile phone at the time!It could be one of your loved ones. There has also been a very successful pilot initiative in Heston East ward, where the police have used their powers under the Road Traffic Act, to stop drivers and check all their documents...driving licence, Insurance MOT etc., if you are found to be in default your car can be impounded. Well over a thousand cars have been impounded for one or other of these offences. Recently a car was stopped and the officers suspicions were aroused during the stop, and on further investigations a Cannabis farm was discovered at a local dwelling, not to mention known drug dealers and other unsavoury characters. This as you will see, is not only about traffic offences but leads to intelligence and the discovery of other offences. This scheme is, I understand going met wide, and I congratulate the police for this long overdue crackdown.
