Rail Fares review and zone review

TfL and the rail operators are to be involved in a review with the aim of simplifying fares in the Greater London area..This will involve taking a look at zones.About time too.Boston Manor which is just a short distance from Northfields is in Zone 4 yet is in W7The gap between Boston Manor and Osterley is one of the longest on the Piccadilly line.Brentford should also be in zone 3 as is Kew Bridge.Brentford and Boston Manor though are served by bus links that are in Zone 3Richmond is likewiseThe gaps thereafter are far more natural and residential areas have a much higher proportion of off street parking. It was noticable that when fares increased and the zone system differentials widened that Northfields and South Ealing had a huge increase in commuter parking which led to the CPZs in areas where parking was very limited. Now this problem has receded with the Oyster card but key facilities are being lesser used because the zone boundaries are so close to other stations.A change to zone 3 for the two key stations would redress this and make it easier for local people to use their local stations. There is also a possibility to lobby for a reinstatement of at least one fast train per hour on the Brentford loop which again brings the only means of getting into the centre of London in less than 20 mins.Efforts to give this sort of fast link have benefitted commuters from the South East and North of London but coming in from the western Greater London area is slower than from the outer satellites like Woking. So time to get writing to Boris and co.

MOGDEN - Group Litigation

MRAG has asked me to post the latest:Dear Residents (copied blind to protect email privacy) The £multi million High Court case against Thames Water for years of neglect at Mogden starts on 23 February and is expected to last 6 weeks. As you are probably aware Hounslow's Tory Leadership performed an incredible and cowardly u-turn by turning its back on residents and agreed to Thames Water's application to increase the site capacity by almost double BEFORE awaiting the outcome of the trial. We believe Hounslow Council  will have a lot to answer for by agreeing to the expansion of Mogden before awaiting the outcome of the trial where Thames Water's   handling of previous expansion programmes will be thoroughly examined. We were as shocked to hear that Ann Keen MP held a secret meeting with Thames Water and subsequently also supported the expansion application and thus all Labour Councillors on the SDC voted approval of the application without obtaining any agreement from Thames Water to cover the most odorous parts of the site as a pre-condition to planning approval.   Local ICG and Lib Dem Cllrs were totally opposed to the expansion going ahead until the outcome of the Group Litigation is made known and, despite the lack of support from local Labour and Tory parties,  the Lib Dems have now in any event launched a petition calling for the covering of the Storm Tanks. Whilst Cllr Andrew Dakers has been out and about gaining support for the petition, and will continue during the next weeks,  you may wish to register your support on line by signing it electronically  at  http://www.hounslowlibdems.org.uk/petitions/3.html The petition reads: PETITION CALLING FOR ALL THE MOGDEN STORM WATER TANKS TO BE COVERED To: The Chief Executives of Thames Water and OFWAT,  We the undersigned object to the continued stench from Mogden Sewage works that blights our lives.   We call upon Thames Water – as Cllr Andrew Dakers and Vincent Cable MP urged in September 2009 – to cover an additional three storm tanks by the end of March 2010 and, if the odour has not reduced substantially during the summer, the final three by the end of 2010. If you would like more information about the trial please email us at mrag27@aol.com  Thank you for your support. Bus route H91 now runs via Chiswick High Road past the front of Gunnersbury station

Route H91 now runs via Chiswick High Road past the front of Gunnersbury station, instead of via Wellesley Road, "behind” the station. This follows the Borough’s proposal, as part of the Turnham Green Traffic & Transport Scheme, to remove the Wellesley Road “diversion” from route H91, for several reasons:• There are significant numbers of people transferring to this route from the District Line and the Overground at Gunnersbury station to reach workplaces along the A4 Golden Mile. The connection is obviously better at the front of the station.• With the bus lanes along Chiswick High Road, the Chiswick High Road route is generally faster than Wellesley Road for buses, which sometimes get held up along Wellesley Road when there is a lot of traffic in peak hours. • The frequency of route H91 was increased a while ago from 12 to 10 minutes and will hopefully increase still further in a few years as economic activity increases further along the Golden Mile.  Wellesley Road isn’t really suitable for a high frequency bus service. The H91 has now become a double decker route, utilising buses cascaded from another route until new double decker buses (currently on order and funded by a s106 agreement from BSkyB) are introduced in mid 2010.  Meanwhile, route 440 has been extended to Power Road via Wellesley Road.Chris Calvi-FreemanHead of TransportLondon Borough of Hounslow
