£50 offer

An old one but worth another read at budget time………It's a slow day in a little east Norfolk town. The sun is beating down, and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit. On this particular day a rich tourist from down south is driving through town. He stops at the motel and lays a £50 note on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night. As soon as the man walks upstairs, the owner grabs the note and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher. The butcher takes the £50 and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pig farmer. The pig farmer takes the £50 and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel. The guy at the Farmer's Co-op takes the £50 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her "services" on credit. The hooker rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the hotel owner. The hotel proprietor then places the £50 back on the counter so the rich traveller will not suspect anything. At that moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the £50 note, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town.No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now out of debt and now looks to the future with a lot more optimism. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the Government conducts business today…..

The Robin Taylor enigma

Reluctant as I am to boost Robin's ego by giving him a thread all to himself I did say I would share some "information", if it is that, that has come my way which might help to throw some light on what motivates this peculiar little fellow to relentlessly bombard residents of a borough in which he doesn't live with propaganda extolling the Party Line of an organisation to which, it would appear, he has committed his undying, not to mention unquestioning allegiance.First his interest in our borough.  Word is that the Labour Party in his own borough has effectively told him he is a bloody nuisance.  His attentions therefore are now solely focused upon neighbouring Hounslow, where he spams our local community forums unashamedly with his judgements upon people he has never even seen, let alone met, and explains to us all where we all stand on the "political spectrum" by which he measures and compares us all.But is he actually a member of the party for which he presumes to speak?Well, according to correspondence published in local newspapers a few years back he left the party in protest over its imperialist military policies.  This alone should ring alarm bells as time and again he has demonstrated here that his philospophy is one of "My Party Right Or Wrong", and that it is unlikely that the lives of a few hundred thousand Bosnians, Serbs, Iraqis or Afghans would concern him enough to inspire him to criticise his own party, let alone to leave it.  Obviously there was something more to his departure from the Labour Party back then than he would have us believe. But did he rejoin?  Look closely at the wording of his posts and one will see that he has never actually claimed to have done.  Moreover, when I have challenged him over the last week or so to tell us exactly where he is coming from he has sidestepped the issue every time. Now I am reliably informed that it is his wont to bombard Labour politicians in this borough with reams of unwanted and unsolicited "advice" as to how they should set about combating the dreaded ICG and the rise of community power in and around Isleworth.  Much of this advice has called for a return to the tired old smear politics that has let them down so badly in the past.  For some reason Robin still seems to believe this to be his party's secret weapon, and that his own party in Hounslow is somehow letting the side down by putting it onto a back burner, at least for now.Said Hounslow Labour politicians have, allegedly, attmepted to invite Robin to meet with them in person to discuss his interest in their work but it would appear that he is even too nervous of them to do so!Word has it (and I must declare that this is second-hand and, to me at least, unconfirmed) that Robin is not actually a member of the Labour Party.  Whether this is through his own choice or because he has been encouraged to leave (or discouraged from rejoining) is not clear.  But the bottom line is that the party for which he appears to speak on this forum doesn't want him.A couple of weeks ago I commented here about a scrappy Labour leaflet that appeared in Isleworth pleading how wonderful Ann Keen was and squealing about how badly maligned and misunderstood she truly is.  My information was at the time that the leaflet was not sanctioned by the Labour Party, and I suggested that possibly Robin and his entourage may have produced it.  However since typing those comments I have become aware that said leaflet has also been distributed in Hounslow South, and possibly other areas, suggesting either that I was being fed misinformation or that Robin's efforts to reinvent the object of his desire as a caring, selfless human being are even more serious than we here may first have realised. The unanswered question here is why, if Robin is acting as a freelance and is compromising his party's election campaign, the real local leadership of the party does not come onto this forum and others, even once, to publicly disown him.The answer, in my view, lies in the fact that some members of the local party who are officially endorsed would seem to accept Robin and insist upon working openly with him.  Sue being the most obvious example. And so it is that the local Labour Party is in something of a quandry.  Disown Robin and upset some of its own candidates and members, don't disown him and just hope and pray that he doesn't do anything really stupid to derail what it is supposed to be a serious political campaign.Who'd be a politician?

Cousin Marriage

Cousin MarriageCousin marriage is common in all Muslim countries. It is in accordance with the teaching of the Holy Quran and our Prophet had married his daughter with his brother son. There were no defects in the children. Cousin marriage is thought to generate more stable relationship. Children are born with defects whether it is cousin marriage or not. Among migrant Muslim communities the defects are due to many factors. The pressure of moving to a different cultural environment and moving from their families, problems of racism and employment are responsible for the defects during pregnancies. The defects are nothing to do with cousin marriages. The hidden agenda is that British society does not want Muslims to bring their spouses from Muslim countries. A man/woman has the right to marry anybody from anywhere. It is a question of human right and the right given to Muslims by the Holy Quran and the sayings of the Holy Prophet. I would like to see each and every Pakistani parent should marry their sons and daughters in Pakistan so that their offsprings could speak, read and write Urdu language and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry. The racist British education system has produced only notoriously monolingual Pakistani Brits. Pakistani parents would like their children to be well versed in Standard English, Arabic and Urdu languages and to be part of the British society as well as keeping in touch with their cultural roots. Marrying cousin is and has always been legal in the UK. It is not only migrant communities who have children with their cousins, rural communities have their fair share…truly… and lets not even look at the inbreeding within royalty and the aristocracy. How else do you think the aristocracy held onto 90% of the land for so long? Muslim community is an easy target to wag the fingure at. There is no hard evidence that married to cousin causes birth defects. Before picking on Pakistanis just remember that Queen and Prince Phillip are third cousins. Glass houses…stone…. I do not think fingers should be pointed at Pakistani culture; it is another witch hunt against Muslim community. Native English people marry their cousins as well and have done for centuries. British society is ignorant regarding UK law. Henry V111 changed the law so he could marry his cousin. And it still remains legal to marry your cousin in UK today. In Britain, every Pakistani is not a Muslim and neither do they all get married to their cousins.  I am sick of British media and politicians like Baroness Ruth Deech and Keighly MP Ann Cryer bashing Muslim communities every day. The hatred towards Muslim communities has grown to a level that defies all logic and even affront to British values. The problem is that Britain has never made communities feel part of British identity and people lives “parallel lives”. Faith schools are part and parcel of British education system but Muslim schools are being discouraged and regarded as “Osama bib Laden Academies. Schools in Brentford

Brentford TW8. COM has highlighted the problem Brentford families are having finding schools near at hand. The problem is particularly difficult for boys ready for secondary school. This was a problem waiting to happen. And it will get worse.Brentford has already nearly doubled in size in the last few years. Flats have been built where the land was originally intended for offices. More flats mean more families who need more school places. The new plans did not make provision for new schools in or near Brentford. In the last month the Council has granted planning consent for further housing at Kew Bridge, Albany House and on the former Alfa Laval site on the Great West Road. When developers have the finance to build these schemes about 500 more families will join the search for school places. In addition the Council has already granted consent for housing on the former SmithKlein Beecham site in the Great West Road, the Thames Water site facing Watermans Park and is intending to support housing in the re-built town centre. Again, when finance is available thesedevelopment will add to the pressure for local school places. The Brentford Community Council has repeatedly urged the Council not to expand our population until we can provide the services we need. The Community Council will continue to press for realistic planning.Problems like this one do not need to happen if we think ahead.Denis BrowneChair, Planning Consultative CommitteeBrentford Community Council
