Innocent mix-up or a new low in New Labour's war on the Worton community?

On Monday a local Somali community leader received an unexpected telephone call from the alleged Member of Parliament for Feltham & Heston, Mr. Alan K££n, inviting him to a reception that evening with the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street. Evidently a spare ticket had become available at the last minute. A little perplexed, he nonetheless accepted and attended the event. The reason that a ticket had become available at such short notice may well have been because the name of Councillor Paul Fisher, Hounslow Council's Lead Member for Service Imporvement and Community Empowerment, had mysteriously been erased at about the same time from the list of invitees.Councillor Fisher had been invited to accompany one of the young residents of Isleworth's Worton estate who had recently received the Metropolitan Police Commissioner's Community Safety Peace Award for their work under the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Sadly the youngster concerned, Jamie Kempson, was understandably overwhelmed and did not wish to attend the reception without Councillor Fisher, who was refused admission at the door.Lurking in the background when Councillor Fisher arrived was Mr. K££n, and his unsuspecting Somali accomplice.Even by the standards of political pettiness and spite that have earned New Labour in Hounslow the notoriety they deservedly enjoy, particularly in Isleworth, it seems difficult to credit that they would stoop so low as to deprive a hard-working and community-spirited young member of the community the opportunity of a lifetime, to meet the Prime Minister and to have his good work receive the recognition and congratulation it deserved from the most senior political figure in the land. However there are a number of incidents which, whilst they may constitute nothing more than a series of coincidences, certainly give us food for thought. One is that the Somali activist in question was one with whom Councillor Fisher and myself have been working very closely and constructively on a series of community cohesion projects. Part of New Labour's modus operandi in these parts is to try to overawe those in the community it seeks to use by impressing them with its importance and contacts. Residents of my own estate have been offered the impossible-to-refuse opportunity to "meet Ann Keen in person" (no less) in exchange for their acquiescence on specific community issues. If the gentleman in question was as shallow as New Labour assumes he and other members of the hoi polloi to be, he might well have been flattered enough to sell his soul to New Labour. In any event, inviting this particular guest has all the hallmarks of "getting one over" on the hated ICG and Worton community.Another is that on the very morning following this incident, at 10:29 to be precise, my blog at http://philandrews.blogspot.com was visited by somebody at the Houses of Parliament (thanks, Statcounter). Don't they say felons always return to the scene of their crimes? There being nothing on there at that time about the incident, whoever it was only hung around for four seconds.I sincerely hope that this incident was nothing more than an innocent mix-up, and that it was not the latest manifestation of New Labour's long-running hatred of the residents of the Worton estate (residents one of its representatives abused as "whingers" a few years back when they dared to oppose the Party's plans for their green). If this is the case, I invite New Labour to make an unequivocal statement to that effect here on this forum . Should such a statement not be forthcoming people will draw their own conclusions, and those conclusions will no doubt differ from person to person. In the meantime, all I can say is roll on the general election!

Gordon Brown should resign

Gordon Brown bears a very heavy responsibility for the present crisis because:1. He establshed the present tripartite regulatory system of the Financial Services Authority, the Treasury and the Bank of England which failed to prevent, detect or control the situation;2. He has presided since 1997 over a massive explosion of public and private debt;3. He sold a huge part of the nation's gold reserves when the gold price was low;4. He has raided and weakened our pension funds and other savings;5. He has greatly expanded governement expenditure thus encumbering us all and future generations with higher taxes and a massive national debt including the costs of the so-called public private partnerships;6. He failed to save money and add the the nation's reserves when the economy was doing well as a result of reforms made by the Conservative Governments of 1979- 1997;7. He has squandered billions of our money on the unreformed health, social security and educational systems without a proportionate immprovement in the performance of these systems;8. He has squandered billions on the war in Iraq and in so-called  aid to corrupt and authoritarian foreign governments;9. He has dithered consistently, chopped and changed economic policies, complicated the tax systems , increased the tax burdens on the poor and the working class and lost the confidence of the British people;10. He has failed dramtically to end poverty, esp[ecially child poverty, increased the income discrepancies between rich and poor and made millions more dependent on state benefits;11. He has consistently undermined public and investor confidence in British banks and financial institutions;12. By their actions, inactions and leaks, he and his colleagues have systematically devalued the capital values and assets of British banks thus forcing them to turn to the Government for assisdtance, funds and shareholders;13. He has failed to protect investors, borrowers and shareholders by failing to regulate and limitethe explosion of credit which has led to an explosion of property prices well beyond sustainable levels;14. He has presided over a huge wave of uncontrolled immigration which  has resulted on huge pressures on housing, education, health, social security and other services;15. He has allowed banks from outside the UK and the EU (e.g. Iceland and the USA) to take depositis from UK local government, charities and individuals without ensuring that these deposits are adequately protected;16. He has failed to ensurr that the Government's plans to deal with the crisis were announced properly in such a way not to allow speculators and traders take profits at the expense of shareholders, savers and depositors. 17.The Government has leaked like a sieve feeding market sensitive information to  to the media, particularly to Brown's biographer, Robert Peston of the BBC, in a way that has enabled speculators make billions, which has encouraged the flight of capital out of the UK and UK banks and other companies and which has lead to a collapse the the sahre values of British companies and hence in the value of our pension funds;18. He does not understand  global momey, share and commodity markets;19. He has no qualifications in economics or finance and has no private sector business experience;20. He lacks the confidence of the British people, the City of London and the global banking and financial communities;21. He has not been elected by the British people. Therefore he should resign as soon as his resignation will not lead to a deterioration of the present crisis he has been so much responsible for.

An Open Letter to Ed Balls

An Open Letter to the Secretary of State for Education Ed BallsThe debate over the trajectory of the western sociopolitical system and its strained relations with Islam is the most pivotal of our time.  Muslims are in one of the most difficult phases of their history when malicious attacks including allegation of terrorism are being made on Islam and Muslims all over the world. The malicious campaign against Muslims is politically motivated. The world is obsessed by Islam. Anti-terror measures are ruining lives of Muslim youths. If you go around arresting young Muslims, you are going to find that you are going to ostracise this community. Young Muslims don’t need to be ostracized, they need to be engaged. According to the Arch Bishop, Rowan Williams, acceptance of some facets of Sharia not only “seems unavoidable”, but could actually improve social cohesion. Muslims should be able to choose to have marital or financial matters dealt with in a Sharia Court. Such courts should therefore be incorporated into the British legal system as a constructive accommodation with Islam.  Schools are being asked to help “win hearts and minds” in the battle against violent extremists on both sides. British born Imams should go into schools to supplement the teaching of RE, PSHE and Citizenship so that all pupils can learn about the Holy Quran and Islam in the context of a multicultural society. OFSTED must make sure that their services should be fully utilised by the schools, otherwise, it will be waste of public money. The British Establishment is wrong to assert that Imams and Masajid have been radicalising Muslim youths.  The roots of extremism are in the British society and schools where institutional racism is at its peak. The racism within schools has got little media coverage. The school attended by 7/7 bombers in a part of Leeds known for its history of racial tension between British Asians and native Brits. Leeds council was so worried about the violence that it had to call in Foundation for Peace, a government funded peacekeepers who were used to keep Catholics and Protestants from killing one another in Northern Ireland. True message of Islam should be promoted because British media and society have always portrayed Islam in a negative way since Crusades and the siege of Vienna in 1683.  School Curriculum should be used to convey a deeper understanding of Islamic faith, history and culture. Prison is not the answer of those who are vulnerable to, or are being drawn into violent extremism unless they have clearly committed an offence. The greatest challenge to humanity is learning to live in a crowded and interconnected world that is creating unprecedented pressures on human society. The rector of Oxford’s largest Anglican Churches has called a Muslim call to prayers from the main Masjid “un-English”. This is a clear case of intolerance. Gibraltar is a British colony. Five Pound currency note has a queen image on one side and on the other side there is an image of the Muslim Conqueror with a sword in his hand. There is more hatred of Muslims seduced by the Western media, education system and church leaders like Bishop Nazir Ali. Catholic nuns have worn veils for centuries, with no public controversies arising. There is no reason why any girl’s school uniform can not now be modified to include a veil. Wearing a veil to school or to work must be a matter of choice for all. Iftikhar Ahmad www.londonschoolofislamic.org.uk
