Brent Lea Rec Meeting Thurs 28th

We asked for a meeting and I have just received this. Accosting councilors at the market does work sometimes! Please tell everyone.Floreat Free School planning application public meetingA meeting about the planning application for Floreat Free School will be held  on  Thursday 28 May, in St Paul’s Church Brentford.  Doors open 6.30pm for 7pm meeting. Councillor Tom Bruce, Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, said:“We know people will have a lot of questions about this application which there wouldn’t be enough time to answer at planning committee.“This is a great opportunity to find out more and have your questions answered.”The meeting will be attended by council officers from planning, leisure, education and traffic and will be chaired by Suzie Betlem, Chair of Brentford Chamber of Commerce.As well as asking questions at the meeting, you can also submit questions in advance by emailing planningcomments@hounslow.gov.uk with ‘Floreat Meeting’ as the subject.

The power of Twitter!

I have discovered that if you want to bring something to the attention of Hounslow council Twitter provides an excellent route to get a pretty quick reply. All credit to Hounslow Highways who I tweeted to get them to replace our pavement parking area white lines, they said it would be late June, early July, before the work was done, and today they have arrived and we have lines! Ditto some trees on the highway in need of attention both around here which are now on the programme to be treated later this year, and in Church Rd. where you can hardly get along the pavement because of the basal growth and very low canopy growth. Just as well as our councillors obviously walk around oblivious to things in their local area and ignore contact from the peasants.

New Mayor of Hounslow

I have been very critical of this administration for many good reasons, but one positive to emerge from the recent reshuffle in my view was the appointment of Councillor Nisar Malik as the new Mayor.  He has cited building community cohesion in the borough as one of his priorities and I think his efforts in this field over the coming year will lend credit to the local authority.During the coalition administration of 2006-2010 the then Leader of the Council, Peter Thompson, personally led on Community Cohesion and I was proud to play a strong supporting role in that area.  Councillor Malik was one of the few opposition (Labour) councillors who would frequently attend events and contribute positively.  I personally found him very supportive.  He is also a genuinely nice guy.I wish Councillor Malik all the very best in his new role.

MAKE WINDMILL ROAD JUNCTION SAFE

Another day, another collision on the A4 junction with Windmill Road. It is only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt. We've tried presenting a petition to TfL and the Council at the Isleworth and Brentford Area forum.  That was a year ago and nothing has changed.  So I've just set up a campaign on 38 Degrees to see if we can get enough popular support to get those with the power to make the changes necessary.  If you use the A4/Windmill Road crossing regularly, as motorist, cyclist or pedestrian, and are concerned about its safety, please click on the attached link and sign this online petition.  It will only take a minute but it might just save a life. There will be a reunion of Trico's at The Inverness Lodge Boston Manor Road Brentford. ( Next to tibrary ) On May 22nd @ 2000. All are welcome. Unnecessary large numbers of CPZ signage

Over the last few weeks, a large number of new signs have been planted in the ground indicating CPZ and times associated with them.  Do we really have to have so many?  We not only now have lampposts with them on which is their rightful place, but our local council deemed it correct to ruin the local conservation area in Hamilton Road, Clifden Road, Brook Road South etc, by planting numerous poles with CPZ signage throughout the streets and intrusively up against our front gardens.  What is going on?  Its costing a fortune, it is unnecessary and unsightly street furniture, a walking hazard and an intrusion in front of ours homes. How can we get rid of them?

Petition to save the Town Wharf trees

THIS WEDNESDAY developer Ballymore intends to chop down all the trees on Town Wharf – part of a big programme of tree removal on the South side of Brentford High Street in preparation for future development.Town Wharf is a small historic harbour formed by a loop in the River Brent. It is home to seventeen people living on boats, over 23 species of birds (including kingfishers) and has a thriving population of extremely rare two-lipped doorsnails that are only found on this stretch of the River Thames (seehttp://www.lbp.org.uk/downloads/PrioityInverts/ThamesDoorSnail.pdf)Chopping down the trees will destroy the beautiful communal gardens that residents have created over the past decade. Are you 'inspired'?

Just had a leaflet through the door for the Church St. Fayre under the banner of 'Inspiring Isleworth'! Whilst I appreciate the work that goes into these events and any community feeling they engender I personally would be a damned sight more inspired if our councillors could ensure that local people get listened to and communicated with instead of swanning around at these publicity opportunities. They seem to find time for those things but trying to get them to engage/act when you have a problem is quite another matter.

Is anybody there?

Yet again on Tuesday some of our recycling was not taken, sick and tired of reporting these missed collections, if they collect from every house how on earth can you keep missing people out? Here we are three days on and after two e-mails and God alone knows how many Tweets the recycling still sits on our front path. Someone going by the name of Simone e-mailed and said she'd 'escalated' this and marked a reminder as 'urgent' that was yesterday, so quite clearly that system really works well! What is the point of promising to pick up a missed collection by 5.30.p.m. the next day when you never, ever, manage that? Or are we just communicating with machines now? To cap it all they've just delivered another blue paper recycling bag when we got the ordered replacement, that the recyclers lost for us, over a week ago! Prats hardly fits the bill.

Closing off Albany road

As usual no mention of this when proposing the extension of the school to a second site which is a good idea.But as usual, done on the cheap and will lead to constant and costly upheaval every time children need to move sites.A simple solution would be a subway linking the sites as it is a relatively short distance.The problem closing the road is it does not achieve much.For cyclists it is not a logical route as Grosvenor road and the park to the half acre has already  been opened up as a cycle route avoiding buses and most other traffic. But Lateward road is the more logical west -east route - apart from the potholes.But this will force almost all local traffic into Lateward road . It will also cut Morrisons off from all shopping traffic from the east side of the area, adding to the congestion at Half Acre and small roads like Wilkes road and Albany road itself will also be subject to blockages and increased diversionary traffic.It will also lead to Lateward road being blocked by the 50% increase in school run drop offs and collections which currently affect three roads so water down the problem.This will concentrate the problem to one road which potentially traps a whole neighbourhood.The same applies to the severe reduction is access to the whole area for emergency vehicles.Cyclists wont and don't use the road up the side of the court as it is mainly used by buses and Morrisons traffic and HGVs and is a short steep incline.  It will also be hazardous for cyclists then turning right across channelled traffic and then into a blind corner occupied possibly by school children.Would be better to make Albany Road  one way for the last 50m and leave the cycling route as it is.But a footbridge or a tunnel keeping the children away from all traffic and keeping them within the secure confines of school premises would be a far better solution long term.

who is playing such bloody loud music?

Does anyone know why there is such loud music playing round by Brentford Lock? Sounds like a band ( not my sort of musuc  but thats not the issue)Its so bloody loud even with window's shut and tv up very loud we can still hear it. Is it at The Weir maybe?  Anyone able to put my curiousity to rest?
