Thames Water

There has been a rather large water leak in Mogden Lane since Friday, water is just running at quite a rate down the gutter for quite a way. The road is dug up and there are bollards around the area, but where are the workmen? What possible justification can there be for not ensuring that work goes on to repair this leak? I cannot believe that this has been left over the weekend at this time of year, it is appalling. I suspect that back in the bad old days of public ownership this would certainly NOT have been the case.

Councillors..What Councillors

It's some considerable time since the Council elections and am I the only one who is wondering what has happened to our local councillors or indeed who they are?I certainly did not agree with all his views but what a huge hole has been left by Matt Harmer.His example of really being involved and his informative newsletters were a great example of what a community councillor should be. He kept us all in the picture and his earlier missives were less political and far more community minded. Far better than the thrash that comes through the letter box in the way of soundbite party propoganda.I don't think we have had a single hoot out of his successor and precious little from his compatriots. It's not good enough really.  Sorely missed.

Isleworth Christmas Market 2014

I think we all agree that the Isleworth Christmas Market last year was a great event but do all the banners advertising it really still need to be hanging off local lamp posts nearly three months later?Makes the area look tacky in my opinion

What happened to L.B. Hounslow?

Alarming report in the Richmond & Twickenham Times of a meeting held at Richmond College recently to discuss match day Rugby issues and the impending World Cup. Alarming because there was no involvement or representation from L.B. Hounslow at either member or officer level let alone the police or local residents. Two wards, Isleworth and Hounslow South, are adjacent to Twickenham Stadium and share some of the issues raised. I understand the successful RFU residents liaison cttee. was killed off due to L.B. Richmond's cuts, so we now seem to have a situation where there is no cross borough working. We surely need our council officers, members, police (and including residents) to be working together, at the moment they seem to be working on their own and the RFU with both boroughs. The police were actually talking of potential closure of the A316 at times which could impact on Hounslow as far back as Chiswick, so I really think cross borough close co-operation has to happen, and happen quickly.

Local Residents Rugby Ballot Tickets

I always thought the local residents ballot for Twickenham tickets was a bit of a PR exercise as I have never met anyone who has ever been successful but I take it all back as I have been allocated 2 tickets for the England v France Six Nations gameWill certainly now be applying for World Cup tickets in the residents ballot

Joined up thinking strikes again!!  Not!

A few months ago Brook Road South was completely resurfaced to surprise of most as it was in better condition than most of the streets off it.Despite it being pointed out that construction works were likely to :a,  Damage the road surface with heavy plant movementsb, Carry out excavations in Brook Road,They were as usual ignored. And this week a huge chunk of new road has been dug up.You can guarantee that it will be a subsided and patched series of bumps within 2 years, never to be properly reinstated.The client for the road surfacing ?   London Borough of HounslowThe client for the building constructions ?  London Borough of Hounslow.And we trust these professionals to deliver a top class development in Brentford High Street.Fat chance.   What a waste of taxpayers money.

The Queen's Barge "Gloriana"

Come on Brentford - Richmond don't want to house the beautiful barge "Gloriana" - why don't you offer to make a home for her on Lot's Ait?   Surely room could be found on there for a suitable boathouse.    It would give people a real reason to visit Brentford - a great tourist attraction.   The footbridge is in place, the existing Waterman's could be developed to house the ticket office, information centre with a restaurant etc etc.   A great opportunity - grab it!

New roundabout - no warnings!

Be very careful at the War Memorial junction with Twickenham Rd. and South St. as a mini roundabout has appeared and from what we could see (or rather couldn't) there are no signs warning motorists of the new layout from any direction. It seems that there will also only be one lane of traffic coming from the direction of the West Mid. instead of one lane to turn left into South St. and one to go straight ahead over Twickenham Rd. There is also only one lane going across Twickenham Rd. coming from the other direction too. Should be great fun come Monday morning when the kids go back after half term!!

MIssing wreaths etc

Anyone know where the wreaths, crosses, poppies etc which were laid on Remembrance Sunday outside Brentford Library have gone to? Why have they been moved at all when I'm sure that other places in the Borough still have theirs.

Thames Path behind Heidelberg Building - Brentford

I am trying to get the relevant authority to sort the Thames Footpath behind the Heidelberg building.  It is a complete mess, dogs poo, graffiti, rubbish, bricks fallen on path, very overgrown vegetation and several of the metal fences have been removed and replaced with plastic ones - which I think is a safety issue.  The path is used by many walkers taking the Thames Path.  Once the path leaves the Ferry Quays estate and goes behind Heidelberg, it appears it is not looked after by any authority.  Hounslow have said it is Thames Water responsibility, Thames Water have said it is the Environment Agency authority - but I can't get anyone to inspect it or take responsibility for it.  It is such a shame on Brentford.  Anyone got any ideas on how to resolve????

People Power!

E-mail received from TfL - the footbridge over the A316 they - in their doubtful wisdom - wanted to remove just before we're due to get the Rugby World Cup (naturally) is to remain for at least the next year or so. Far from doing away with footbridges we could actually do with another further down to facilitate to easier and safer movement of pedestrians from Twickenham Station to the stadium. The proviso is that it will be shut if it deteriorates but they are going to take a look at it. Blimey that must have been some response - power to the people!

Under siege

I am really beginning to feel that Isleworth must have upset someone given some of the things going on here.First we have the ongoing saga of the shortened median strip at the junction of Dawes Ave. and the Twickenham Rd. which has allowed illegal right hand turns into Dawes Ave. thereby creating extremely dangerous manoeuvres into the oncoming traffic, and putting more vehicles onto local roads which are also the way to three local primary schools. Since I met with councillors and the Head of Traffic last August it seems nothing has been done! A CCTV camera is monitoring illegal turns and now the council are to issue warnings to offenders and then PCNs! Never mind the serious implications this has for road safety, what a nice little earner this could turn out to be.Secondly the saga of the horses on the local park rumbles on, with the council in their (doubtful) wisdom attaching an A4 piece of paper to a nearby gate with an e-mail address and calling it a 'consultation'. Several of us residents have impressed upon Cllr. Mayne the importance of a full and proper consultation, meaning letters through the doors of everyone who lives in this area. The fact that our councillors were sucked into this by officers is pretty appalling but their reluctance to sort it out is even more so. One only has to look at legislation regarding public open space which this park is to see what a real clanger has been dropped. Has no-one ever heard of 'sorry we got it wrong'? It seems someone's horses grazing are more important than having an amenity for local residents, talk of costs for the upkeep of this fairly small area are a complete red herring to try and justify what is a very murky issue.
