Ann Keen speaks up for residents on Mogden

Forum users can see from the article on the front page that popular local MP Ann Keen recently held a meeting with Thames Water over the issue of Isleworth's Mogden sewage works.Last Saturday, she raised with them "the serious concerns from residents" about the matter and said afterwards "I would like to thank all the residents that have contacted me regarding this issue."Sadly, the article is debased by the party political point-scoring of a spokesperson from the Mogden Residents Action Group (MRAG) and from former National Front member Phil Andrews of the ICG (who co-founded MRAG with a view to furthering his own political influence and who is also a MRAG committee member). The MRAG spokesperson states that Ann's meeting "took place without any consultation with residents". Simply not true. It was on behalf of those residents who had contacted Ann that she had the meeting. The MRAG spokesperson also stated that "the meeting followed threats made on local internet forums by a spokesperson for Mrs Keen that she would be engaging with Thames Water separately from residents rather than working with them..."This is a 100% lie. No spokesperson for Mrs Keen threatened anything of the sort.In the article, the ICG also criticises Ann Keen. They accuse her of showing "discourtesy" by meeting Thames Water "without seeking a briefing nor even notifying residents". For "residents" read Phil Andrews and his political allies on the MRAG committee. What Phil should try and understand is this: Ann is the democratically elected representative for the area which includes Mogden. She does not need the permission of any National Front member, past or present, in order to make representations on behalf of her constituents.Phil further comments: "A spokesperson for Mrs Keen recently announced that she and her party intended to work separately from residents on the Mogden issue as they didn't wish to be involved with the resident-led campaign."This is complete and utter tosh. In fact, Phil's Tory colleague Councillor Peter Carey summed things up perfectly when he said this about a piece of ICG propoganda that was once drawn up and distributed by Phil Andrews:"It is malicious, mischievous and total rubbish."Now people can understand what Ann Keen has to put up with.

Stupid Tory Richard Tracey

I cannot believe that moronic individual of the London Assembly is urging Boris to ensure Mogden expansion goes ahead to the detriment of Hounslow and Richmond residents when he clearly has no idea of the facts. Talk about ignorant of the real situation. Does he not realise that if a child continuously throws its toys out of the pram you don't simply buy a bigger pram.Such is the situation with Thames Water. They had the chance to expand Mogden in 1999 to treat more sewage and they failed miserably. Instead of reaching the target for which they applied of 810 Ml/day they only achieved EA consent to treat 690 Ml/day and even now they are using storm tanks when they are only treating 400 to 500 ml/day. They only have to discharge into the River Thames when all storm tanks are full but they are filling the tanks well before they need to. Tracey says he thinks millions of Londoners will be appalled to learn that huge quantities of sewage are poured into the River Thames each year. Yes they probably would be appalled - but the sewage wouldn't need to be poured into the Thames if Mogden was run efficiently. Tracey says  he "knows why this is happening: investment to expand the water treatment works at Mogden has been delayed, which means that when there is a storm surge the current infrastructure is unable to cope and consequently the river is used as an overflow sewer." Absolute rubbish - investment hasn't been delayed - its simply under scrutiny because the site is so badly managed and is subject of a group litigation alleging negligence.Tracey says "it’s vital that this investment goes ahead to ensure the standards that people believe are already in place are maintained"Again total  rubbish - it is vital that this expansion does NOT go ahead because it would simply be pouring good money (from taxpayers) after bad. What IS vital is that the Mogden operation and management of the site is judged in the High Court of Justice (now delayed by Thames Water until February 2010)  so that all evidence is made public. Tracey says "What Londoners want to know from their Mayor is that he is using his influence to ensure that Thames Water maintains its investment programme so that this horrible situation becomes a thing of the past.”Wrong again Tracey - What Londoners want to know from their Mayor is that he is using his influence to ensure that Thames Water is held accountable for its failure of the last expansion program and that it explains why it is using storm tanks and discharging raw sewage into the river when it is not processing sewage well below its planned daily flow of 810. Until it can explain this and until it can convince the mayor that it can run the site properly and employ qualified chemical engineers on site, it should divert the flow, it is unable to process, to another of its many sites.

The K££ns House

Well well and we all believed they would be moving straight back in didnt we!!From the Local TimesNeighbours of MPs Alan and Ann Keen say there has been no sign of the couple attempting to move back into their constituency home - two months after squatters were kicked out. The couple’s “main home” in Brentford remained boarded up this week, with metal shutters securing the ground floor windows, following an alleged sex attack during the squatter’s farewell party on July 11. The Keens, who have been living full-time at their £700,000 Thames-side apartment since their main home fell into disrepair last year, said at the time they were determined to move back in as soon as possible. However, residents say they have seen no sign of the couple dubbed “Mr and Mrs Expenses” - and said they would rather see the squatters back in residence instead of the house languishing. Neighbour Daniel Laws, 30, a teacher, said: “There has been very little activity there. No builders, no Keens, nothing, it’s just empty. “There is no building activity, I go past there every day to Morrisons and I haven’t seen any activity at all. It’s still an abandoned house.” He said some residents in the street felt disappointed the squatters were evicted, adding: “While the squatters were there, there was actually a sense of community. I met more of my neighbours from that squat than I ever did from three years living here without the squat. “To be honest I would just rather the Keens moved out the area. They are being investigated for their claims and they obviously don’t want to live here.” Another neighbour, a father-of-two who asked not to be named, said: “They boarded up inside the door and some of the windows, but nothing has gone on since a week after the squatters moved out. “I haven’t seen the Keens here for well over a year, then again I’m not always looking outside so they may have slipped past and gone inside. “I don’t know what their arrangements are, but they certainly haven’t had any work going on in there.” Mrs Keen, MP for Brentford and Isleworth, and her husband, MP for Feltham and Heston, claimed £140,000 over four years for their second home, which is less than 10 miles from Brentford. Mr Keen said they had been delayed moving back to Brentford while they took legal advice, and builders were set to begin work this week. He said: “The legal advice is regarding everything that’s happened to the house and the people that have been involved in and probably contributed to the problem. It’s not a straight forward issue.”
