Ann Keen breaks her long silence in the House of Commons

Now that she has been appointed a Parliamentary Under Secretary at the Department of Health, Ann Keen MP has been obliged to end her long silence in the House of Commons. She spoke twice in Westminster Hall yesterday according to www.theyworkforyou.com:Spoken by Ann Keen : 2 Westminster Hall debates ===============================================Dental Services (Sutton and Merton) (3 Jul 2007) http://www.theyworkforyou.com/whall/?id=2007-07-03a.230.1&s=speaker%3A10330#g233.0Ann Keen: "I congratulate  the hon. Member for Carshalton and Wallington (Tom Brake) on securing this debate on dental services, and I thank him for his kind and supportive comments at the beginning of his speech. I also congratulate him on the imaginative use of his website, the pictures with his local dentist, and his survey of his constituents. It is certainly the way forward to consult all..."Dental Services (Sutton and Merton) (3 Jul 2007)http://www.theyworkforyou.com/whall/?id=2007-07-03a.230.1&s=speaker%3A10330#g236.1Ann Keen: "My experience is that when a contract is working well in the NHS, and when we are building on a good relationship with PCTs and dental services, it is obviously wrong to go back on it. We should build on the success of NHS dentistry and PCT involvement. The system of the 1990s and before did not work but, since 2006, the new contract has led to proven improvements in oral health and in NHS..."Comment: I think that some of her constituents who have problems finding an NHS dentist may have a few words to say to Mrs Keen if they ever get a chance to meet her !In view of the fact that the Hounslow PCT is over £20 million in debt and has been under-funded by the Government in recent years, some of her constituents may want to ask Mrs Keen what is she going to do about solving the NHS problems in her own constituency.

Social Housing Continued.

JustinI think you may not have noticed my update on this under the previousthe previous thread. In the light of the "Tonight" programme which was transmitted on Monday at 20.00hrs, and reproduced on the Telegraph.co.uk website. You will see that Alan Johnson and others were out by 500% in their estimate of that only 1% of council housing is given to immigrants "You always hark back to the view that the lack of availability of council housing for local people is caused by immigrants jumping the queue. I don't believe that this is the case. In Barking, where Margaret Hodge is the MP, the Evening Standard investigations showed that no council housing had been given to recent immigrants in the last year. It is likely that this situation is mirrored in Hounslow. It would be very easy for you to prove me wrong but you don't seem to want facts to get in the way of your opinions". I am still of the opinion that we may never know the true figure, but giving 200,000 homes to immigrants in front of ALL of our citizens is completely wrong!200,000 'social homes' given to immigrants By Gary Cleland Telegraph.co.ukLast Updated: 1:58am BST 02/07/2007Five times more immigrants are given social housing than previously claimed, the Government has admitted.Just weeks ago ministers insisted only one per cent of social housing is given to immigrants, in an attempt to quell widespread fears that they are treated better by local authorities than people born in Britain. But after an investigation by ITV's Tonight With Trevor McDonald programme, the Government has admitted that 200,000 of Britain's social homes - five per cent of the total - were given to immigrants last year. There is a waiting list of 1.5 million for the four million social houses in Britain.Priority for houses is given to those most in need. Immigrant families cannot automatically be put to the top of the queue, but often fall into needy groups by being homeless or living in overcrowded accommodation. The Government's original figures were published on May 21 in the midst of a controversy surrounding an article by Margaret Hodge, then the industry minister, claiming British families had more right to social housing than new migrants. An internal Labour row saw then-deputy leadership hopefuls Alan Johnson and John Cruddas rebuke Mrs Hodge, with Johnson accusing her of using the "language of the BNP".However, the Government was yesterday forced to confirm that the five per cent figure claimed by the television report was correct. But it denied any intention to mislead, claiming it had simply updated its calculation system since May.A spokesman for the Department for Communities and Local Government said: "It is bizarre that people should criticise the government for carrying out further analysis."Unconvinced, Sir Andrew Green, of Migrationwatch UK, said: "If the Government doesn't know how many foreigners are in social housing they damn well ought to."

Ann K££n primes Gilligan and Evening Standard for FIFTH anti-ICG hatchet job

Andrew Gilligan of the London Evening Standard is set to produce a fifth attack on the Independent Community Group, possibly on Monday, at the behest of Ann K££n MP.I have it on good authority that the Standard will reveal the previously undiscovered fact that in the 1980s I was a member of the National Front.  If I am correct this will be the fifth such revelation to appear in the Standard, the four most recent all having been made within the past fourteen months. In the build-up to the local elections in 2006 the Standard published a claim that I had a criminal conviction for a racially-motivated assault on a black police officer.  This is a complete fabrication, and I wrote to the Editor at the time to request an apology.Far from providing an apology, Gilligan decided to call my bluff this April by repeating the allegation, this time using the even more lurid description of "a race-hate attack against a black police officer".Whilst I have a lot of work to do with my new role at the Council and don't wish to have all my time eaten up fighting legal actions which can be costly, I decided following the most recent such allegation that enough was enough and this particular matter is now in the hands of solicitors.  I am particularly keen to deal with this this time around because the most recent allegation seems to have been written in the full knowledge that it was false. This time Gilligan has actually attempted to make contact with me to enable me to provide him with a one-liner which he could use to create an impression of having given both sides of the story.  Whilst I am not prepared to give an interview to such a specimen, he did unfortunately manage to have a brief telephone conversation with my wife Caroline during which he confirmed that his latest effort, like the last ones, is being penned at the request of Mrs. K££n.When asked by Caroline whether he felt it was compulsory to write and re-write the same story over and again every time Mrs. K££n so demands, especially as the story is so old and tired that even the small local papers don't consider it news any more, he replied meekly: "Well she is a Member of Parliament".The Standard is not traditionally a strong supporter of the New Labour Party and it was this paper which actually broke the "Mr. & Mrs. Expenses story in 2005.However it seems clear that Mrs. K££n or somebody close to her has something over the Standard which requires them to produce repeated and if necessary defamatory attacks on her opponents whenever she should demand.I intend to investigate the relationship between Gilligan/Evening Standard and the K££ns and to produce a dedicated website showing my findings. One kind individual has already provided me with a useful lead on this matter.  If anybody who has any information which they might wish to share with me, in confidence if necessary, please send it to me at phil@communitygroup.org.uk.  Many thanks.

Cheap as Chips!

Losing your pet can be a devastating experience, which is why Osterley and Spring Grove Safer Neighbourhood Team is pleased to be supporting the 5th annual National Microchipping Month in June 2007.  Following the huge success of the 2006 event, The Metropolitan Police, the Kennel Club and the National Trust will be holding “Cheap as Chips!” on Sunday 24th June 2007 at Osterley Park (in front of Osterley House) to encourage owners to get their dogs microchipped as the preferred method of permanent identification. “Cheap as Chips!” will be held from 10am to 2pm, in front of Osterley House and this is a great opportunity for local dog owners to discover more about the importance of microchipping.  With thousands of dogs going missing every year, implanting a microchip vastly increases a dog’s chances of getting home safely. It is an inexpensive form of identification that cannot be lost, altered or intentionally removed once implanted.  The process is quick and painless and will give peace of mind to the owner as they can ensure they are reunited with their pets sooner rather than later.  For vets, dog wardens, rescue centres, dog wardens, police and local councils it is a simple, practical and quick procedure that can help an individual owner and their pet. There will be a small (£10) fee for the service, so it really is as Cheap as Chips! For further information about “Cheap as Chips!”, please contact PC Chris Lavender from the Osterley and Spring Grove Safer Neighbourhood Team on 020 8721 2809.
