'Bust My Ass...'

Anyone see this programme last night on bbc3?It was a good insight into the erosion of our freedom to protest and how curtailing it has all been put under the banner of counter-terrorism.Seems New Labour don't like us telling them we think they are not very good and the police can't wait to make arrest normal intelligent and rational people who express views that are deemed'offensive',though who does the deeming is a mystery.

Care: leaving front doors open ..even for a little while. Thief about!

My Osterley neighbour left his front door open TODAY an hour or so ago...to allow his interior fresh paint to dry. Some windows were open too.A smartly dressed scalleywag..passing by..decided to try his luck and wandered in..pretending to be concerned that the front door was opened.He was caught...endeaving to grab some property...and then seemingly let off.You can never be too careful these days. Beware..leaving front doors open...even if popping next door to speak to a neighbour!

DAMAGED PAVEMENTS UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've just taken a HUGE tumble walking down Brook Lane South caused by me going head over heals due to a 'blown section of  resurfaced tarmac.My handbag went flying, both my shoes ended up a foot behind me (which will gage for you the extent of my fall) - it was like a fall in ski-ing! My mobile (MY NEW MOBILE!) was in my pocket and the screen has smashed. My left hand is killing me as it took the impact on me trying to break my fall.  My right knee is swollen and cut. The fall hurt so much it made me physically sick. I've just limped into my office, shaken and in tears with the pain.A work colleage is going to drive back to the location later to take some pictures of it.In the meantime, can anyone advise me who I should report this to please.Thank you,SHAKEN UP FRAN

Harry Holland book

Has anybody read the Harry Holland book and if so what is your opinion, I found it a good read as I knew some of the people mentioned in it and the places named but I did find there was a lot of name dropping. Also they way the author has written it it sounds like Harry was a cockney barrow boy not a lad from Brentford. I knew him in the old days and he was always a polite man and respectful to his elders. Maybe we need a new boxing club in the area to get the boys of the streets and instill some discipline. My husband boxed as a teenager like a lot of boys did in those days, both my boys took it up when they were young and they turned out well.

Street rubbish/waste bins - who to contact?

At the corner of Glenhurst Road and Windmill Road, behind the memorial bench which has recently been installed, there is a pile of rubbish consisting of those barriers used when there pavement is being dug up. Does anyone know who I might contact to see if they are being collected, and who is responsible for disposing of/collecting them? They are beginning to act as a magnet for other rubbish, and the grass is literally growing over them.The bench is lovely by the way, and I don't mean to tarnish it by association.I also was interested in requesting placement of a couple of extra bins in the area - chiefly, the E2 bus stop across from the new TVU dorms (where the cigarette ends are nearly ankle deep), and a dog waste bin by the footbridge in Layton Road (or somewhere nearby). I'll send an email to the council, but there must be someone specific I can ring in case the email isn't successful...?

.. a pair of seemingly-ordinary-bog-standard-plastic ladies flip flops (well they were in with the ladies shoes) a snip at a few pence short of £30!  Sole trader, Brighton yesterday.  :-(

Parking Fines set to rise

I don't really want to be critical of the 'news editor' of this site but I find the above headlines for a news item on the front page reminiscent of a typical Daily Express headline.As I understand this item, this is the long awaited and sensible change of parking fines to differentiate between those motorists who selfishly abandon their vehicles on yellow lines and delay other drivers or obstruct pedestrians and those motorists who have attempted to park legally on a parking meter or in a car park but who have not paid the right amount or overstayed the time period. Yes the fines for the former category of motorists will rise to £100 but the fines for the latter category will in fact fall to £60. .... but I suppose the headline 'Parking Fines set to fall' wouldn't provoke the same 'what are they doing to car drivers now' reaction!

MOGDEN -  ICG take Thames Water to task at IBAC meeting

Isleworth and Brentford Area Committee (Monitoring)A meeting of the Isleworth and Brentford Area Committee (Monitoring) took place in the Brentford Free Church, Boston Manor Road, Brentford on Thursday, 17 May and Thames Water presented its plans to seek planning permission to increase the capacity of Mogden by more than 50%. Thames are hoping to begin the expansion in  the spring 2008 and finish by 2012.The late hour and time constraints curtailed resident participation at the meeting  but it was noted that Thames Water had increased its intended 2 man  delegation  to  9 employees.However,  ICG Councillors Phil Andrews and Paul Fisher  attended and  Cllr Andrews represented residents' concerns.  He was only able to ask one question. The question asked was:   "Thames Water has not been a good neighbour.  It has not committed a penny from its own resources to ease the suffering of the surrounding community, in spite of the fact that it has both the technology and the financial resources to do so.  As the elected representatives of your victims, could you please explain to me why you would expect us to look sympathetically upon your application to expand your operation still further?"This question then enabled the Chair to allow Cllr Andrews to correct the outright falsehood offered by Thames Water's delegate when he announced that TW's shareholders had contributed the £40 million towards odour improvements collected from customers following OFWAT's decision.It is a well known fact that Thames Water has not contributed a penny towards the current odour improvement project for which Ofwat is allowing Thames Water to collect a maximum £40million from Rate Payers. It is well documented that the £40 million is not expected to reduce odour by significantly more than 50% and still Thames Water has not offered shareholder funding to complete the job properly. However, Thames Water's blatant misleading reply allowed Cllr Andrews to present a detailed explanation of events to the Committee (and hopefully enlighten the Thames Water delegation).  If residents do not want to see Isleworth, Twickenham  and surrounding areas turned into Europe's biggest cesspool at the expense of the local communities whilst increasing the profits of Thames Water shareholders, we urge you to offer your elected Councillors every possible support on this issue which could effect the community for decades to come.Regards MRAGwww.mogden.org.uk For News and Views on local community issues visit http://www.twickenham-online.co.uk/

Darfurs Children-who cares?

I  have just watched the news, and the pictures I saw of babies dying in their thousands through dehydration and malnutrition. It is heartbreaking to see them, with apparently hardly any response from Europe or the UN apparently!Cant we at least provide them with tents, because the rainy season is only two weeks away, and aid will be unable to reach them. This is a major humanitarian crisis. I was a supporter of the Iraq invasion, and truly believed it was to get rid of Saddam and his cronies.........I was wrong. We must now, along with the rest of the world save these people especially babies.......but I fear it may be too late.  The warlords need to be disarmed now as well.

As resident photographer and foundation member of the Brentford style council I am very surprised you have not yet offered your electronic etchings of the new music museum now the hoardings have been taken down.It is a sight to behold - how anybody who hasn't gone blind yet could admire the tranquil mix of terracotta, grey and blue (let alone the yet-to-be-switched on pink and purple vertical stripes) is beyond me.So now the set is complete - the lovely blue and grey of the Travelodge, the terracotta, grey and white of Capital West, and now all colours combined on one building.Thank goodness sanity kept their hands off St George's Church.Heavens above !

Borough Council Meeting tonight....

This recycling lark...

We are all aware of the latest proposed bully-boy tactics to get us to recycle more on pain of being fined and having our fingernails removed if we dare to resist nanny...but who will be checking up on nanny?How will I know,for instance ,that the staff of Hounslow Council(or any other govn. office) are,themselves bothering to put their scrap paper and cardboard/plastic and whatever else to be recycled?Are they turning unused lights off,regulating heaters and air con. units,using council vehicles in an efficient way?I have worked in local gov. offices for many years and have rarely seen recycling done at all in any of them.Anyone else have similar experience?
